Did God Aprove of Slavery????

Just asking because there are alot of texts that talk about how to threat your slave and stuff????

Just like divorce, slavery is something that God had not instituted for man. It is man who began to enslave other men, until slavery became a part of man's culture..
Some may say that slavery began here or there at this or that time, or that a man becomes a slave to somebody else because he owes money or property or something else, which debts are passed on from generation to generation.
Regardless, God did not institute it.
What God can do, and did, among His people, in this case as represented by Israel, is to institute laws and regulations on how to treat those who are their slaves.
Whether Israel followed these regulations and instructions faithfully, I do not know. But I can surmise that many did not.

The slavery of the new testament would more closley match what we think of as an employee today. A person served as a slave in exchange for a place to live, food, money, and protection. They often entered into the agreement willingly (or forced by debt) and had provisions for leaving it. They were not necessarily bought and sold like property.

It seems like God approves of it in scripture. We shouldn't read our culture into scripture.

There was a time limit on brethren (fellow israelites) keeping one another as slaves.

God at least accepted slavery in scripture. There is no command in scripture to free slaves. That applies to both N.T. and O.T.

In Genesis 17:12, God commands Abraham to circumcise all male slaves that he buys.

Since there was no government to provide protection, slavery was necessary for people to group together for protection from roving bandits. Some people sold themselves into slavery for protection for themselves and their family. Slavery provided a permanent assurance of protection, food and shelter. Of course, some became slaves as a result of war.

Slavery was a vital part of the economic system. With national governments and our economic systems, there is no need for slavery today.
