Did Sgt Finkle survive the battle of Little Big Horn?

This was on TV once and seemed persuasive. The horse was allowed out because it seemed to be carrying a dead man.

I was going to say the military was so poorly paid and faced such tough times in those days. I have read that Sheridan and Sherman decided to end the Indian Wars the way they ended the Civil War--with a scorched earth policy. Interestingly, Crook fought a battle almost at the same time at Rosebud but he withdrew when his supplies ran low. In the long run, Crook fought a lot of the battles as I recall. I got very interested in the subject years ago. We have a major museum of western art here in Indianapolis called the Eiteljorg museum. Mr. Eiteljorg collected so many things that he had to build a museum to protect them all.

The TV show persuaded me. If there was laxity in Sitting Bull's camp, then it is plausible that no one wanted to chase down a horse leaving the battlefield. If Custer had had greater supplies, he might have gotten a stalemate but he ran out of bullets. It's hard for me to say because my family was all from east of the Mississippi so there is no tradition except farming and the industrial revolution. The problem with the West is lack of water. The West has changed a lot in my lifetime as we first vacationed in the West right after World War II and those days are forgotten now but that is true for Indiana also.
