Did Trump trap Cruz?

Apparently, Trump voters were angry about Cruz's speech and appearance at the GOP Convention in Ohio last night and the Cruz family needed armed security guards to exit the Cleveland hall.

I am wondering if anything that Cruz would have said would have pleased the Donald? In fact, I am wondering why Lying' Ted and his family alleged by Trump to be in cahoots with Lee Harvey Oswald were even invited to speak by Trump?

As for Cuban dissidents such as Cruz and his father, a refugee from the dictator Batista in Cuba, I think that they will vote GOP anyway. But I think anymore performances by the GOP against them will push them into an independent status. It is strange that the American people are not pushing for an opening with North Korea since it is a sister state of Cuba and involved in terrorism along with Cuba in Latin America.

This was a case of reality show Trump being reality show Trump.

They got Cruz's speech at about 6 pm. Cruz was supposed to speak about 9/930 pm. SO the Trump team had time to read his speech.

They knew he was not going to endorse. I think the Trump team figured he would galvanize their supporters since he wasn't going to endorse.

Trying to get verification from a friend who was there, but apparently there are folks who work for the RNC and the nominee's campaign who are called green hats. That's old news. But apparently the RNC and Trump campaign paid green hats were stirring up the crowd to get them to boo Cruz. This would naturally make Cruz look bad and make the Trump supporters more determined than ever.

This was nothing more than another Donald Trump production.

Treated him wrong? They gave him a one-minute standing ovation when Cruz first appeared on stage; then started booing him when he didn't endorse Trump--which is supposed to be the point of the convention. All that did was make Cruz look petty.

Do I agree that they went too far with their booing? Perhaps.

So far the only thing I've watched at the RNC was Cruz's speech and Pence's speech.

When a person says Republicans should vote their conscience and the crowd boos, I'd say the crowd's conscience has a problem with their candidate.

His speech was fantastic. As far as I'm concerned he is the Churchill of our day, standing for Principles in the face of all kinds of adversity. Cruz allowed the Trump Party to reveal itself by saying "Don't stay home this November. Stand and speak and vote your conscience. The entire display during and after Cruz's speech was just weird.

And that you've got so many Christians supporting this type of wickedness, can't do anything but watch in complete amazement. And to see the degree that Christians go to to justify supporting this man for anything.

I feel sorry for Pence. It was supposed to be his night. But last night was all about Cruz and the uncivilized nature of the Trump Touched.

I agree with Cruz. He's a grown man. What would he look like keeping some childish pledge to support a man who maligned his wife and father and never apologized?

This #AllorNothingGOP candidate foolishness is just that. I can count on one hand the folks from that field of 17 who seem to have an ounce of character.

To break that pledge reminds me of Bush 1 who said "Read my lips, no new taxes!" but then broke his word with the unacceptable excuse that conditions forced him to break his word (there were no events to change conditions from when he made the promise).

Cruz made that pledge, without qualification, knowing exactly what kind of man Trump is and that his willingness to endorse Trump was the main (unvoiced) point of the pledge. If it's a childish pledge and Cruz is a grown up, he should have been grown up and refused to make the pledge.

People say Cruz is one of the least liked people in Congress, this is another reason why.

Whatever your feelings for Cruz breaking his word, Cruz's chance of winning the next Republican race is now gone. As it should be.

Cruz is not running as a 3rd party candidate. We all know that Trump would have if Cruz beat him. Cruz showed the world the new ugly face of the Trump Party. Why? As a grown man he retains the option to change his grown man when the other parties to the pledge act as though they are crazed loons.

I wasn't voting for Cruz. He doesn't meet my first three requirements.

How many times has Trump filed bankruptcy and not kept his word to pay his bills?
How many times has Trump gotten divorced and not kept his word?
How many times was he for the Iraq war and then against it?
How many times was he for Hillary and then against her?

Has that money he pledged to the veterans made it yet?

It's farcical that anyone supporting Trump or complaining about CRuz breaking a pledge seem to forget that we're talking about Donald Trump. Does he have a history of EVER keeping his word?

The crowd was booing Cruz's echoing of #NeverTrump propaganda. To say they were booing standing up for freedom and the constitution is a twisted untruth.

Stick a fork in Cruz. He is done. He has committed political suicide.

He only gave another example of what's wrong with career politicians and otherwise his actions will be meaningless.

Cruz had a chance to man-up but was thinking of himself rather than the country and made any trap he stepped in. He'd been personally better off just staying home than showboating his lack of integrity and proving Trump's nickname for him as true.

Exactly right. Cruz had no intention of endorsing Trump when he pledged to endorse the winner. Cruz did the simple math, if Trump doesn't win, the pledge isn't tested. If Trump does win, Cruz has lost anyway. Cruz's error, other than being dishonest, is under-calculating ow much breaking his pledge would cost him. Or, at least we'll see next time Cruz runs for office.

The crowd was booing Cruz because not only because he directly broke his word, but because he refuses to endorse Trump against the most dangerous candidate the Democrat party has ever had on the ballot. Hillary doesn't just have history's first opportunity to appoint the Fifth Activist to the Supreme Court, but coming after Obama, she has an opportunity to entrench Obama's policies further, without Republican interruption, and with her experience and preparation, she'll get eight years of Liberal work done in just four years.
