Did you watch the Oscars?

I was actually somewhat surprised to hear Chris Rock refer to Tim Robbins as "boring us with his politics" (Mr. Robbins is pretty left-wing, I believe). IMO, this was probably an intentional attempt to be more balanced - this was effectively a shot at the "liberals".

On another note, I thought that "Sideways" was a much better movie than "Million Dollar Baby".

 

I watched it and didn't hear any foul language, there was no president bashing, in fact he or his goverment was never mentioned. Which was a surprise. I did disagree with some of the wins though. I only saw one nominated movie and though it was a beautiful movie, you could actually take your kids to see it.

 

I could not answer your poll. I did not watch the Oscars because I forgot that the show was on. I might have watched some of it if I had remembered.

There should have been more options. It seems that you think that the only reason one would not watch the oscars are the same reason you did not watch them.

 

We didn't watch and have never watched them. I would have avoided it if I WERE an avid movie person because of some things I saw on news pages where Chris Rock used a cuss word saying he was ready for the oscars and then an article about Robin Williams plans to 'trash' Dr. James Dobson and Christians. His 'comedy bit' was pulled just hours before the program was to start.

 

That's why Robin Williams came out with a piece of duct tape on his mouth! I was wondering why.

I watch to see the dresses and for the music. Which was excellent for the most part. Beyonce knows how to look like a lady, albeit Hollywood style. And she sang great. I wish she would act like a lady more often.

As far as being out of touch, I said no because it was just this year that had no really good movies that they chose to honor. Other years, yes.

Usually I will have seen at least one or two nominated films. This year, no.

And so I think that THIS YEAR it was really out of touch and lacking in what was worth seeing. In previous years, not as much.

Of course I think Passion of the Christ should have been honored for all that went into it. Heard Mel Gibson on the Michael Medved radio show yesterday, and Mel said that he thought as a whole this year was pretty bad for not having produced much in the way of good movies.

I saw bits and pieces of the show. Of what I did see and hear, Chris Rock did give a good poke at the president.

No, I didn't watch as I get sick of watching a bunch of spoiled actors get feted on the trash they spew out. It has become a cultural and class thing with me, I guess. These folks pollute our culture with their system of "morality" (and don't doubt for a minute that relativistic, if-it-feels-good indulgence is a system of morality, albeit perverted) and yet are held out as role models simply due to their self-indulgence and wealth, certainly not for their examples. Hours and hours are spent fawning over their fashions and "entertainment" interviewers treat these people like royalty when their values destroy the moral capital of centuries. No, thanks!

 

I didn't watch the Oscars, when The Passion was not nominated for anything I knew it was business as usual!. In movies u can use GOD'S name in vain but heaven forbid if u make a movie about HIM. Even if the movie was not all acurate obviously it must have offended them in some way, I mean no sex, filthy cursing, or extreme nudity etc.. they would not want a movie like that win an award.

 

Are the Oscar awards named for Oscar Mayer? It would figure, since they're a lot of b-o-l-o-g-n-a.

peers for hard work..and culminating in
celebration for a great year..its easy to
be cynical..but they worked hard and have
put the film industy in this country sqaurely
on top..we really are the envy of the rest of
the world. btw Passion of the Christ was nominated
for some oscars..plus Passion has won other
awards during the awards season...good for you

as well..some happen to be better than others
because of story telling...cinematography..
acting..etc.
