No, we didn't...but...

...why observe something on one day that a community celebrates EVERYDAY of their lives?

In my case, it's not even necessary to "observe a speical day for MLK day".

MLK shows up heavily every year around this time in a sermon.
So yes I guess. Sometimes one ought to commemorate the heroes of once faith. And John Birch just doesn't seem to do it for Dutch audiances.
Everybody who wants to file a complaint about that. Go ahead I'll put them through to the pastor.

No we did not but we also don't do anything for Washington or Lincoln's birthdays, Columbus Day and others. On Veteran's Day those who have lost a loved one are asked to stand. Those who have someone currently serving are asked to stand. A special prayer is said thanking God for those who gave all and those in danger, etc.

I'm afraid Robert E. Lee has a similar (but not the same) problem to John Birch in my church. Most of the congregation will never understand why many consider the fellow a Christian hero.

Diane, As a Vet of nearly 15 years of active duty and 8 years of service in the Virginai Defense Force, I am very thankful that your church honors veterans. However, remember that Veterans Day is for those who have served (and still living). Memorial Day is for those who have given their live for these great United States. God Bless America

Pastor Greg, I do understand that one of MLK right hand men disclosed in a book that MLK did have adulterers. (does anyone know off hand the title and/or author?)
As far as being a communist, is there some reliable reference you have to back that up. I would be very interested.
I have been informed that the famous "I have a dream" speech was plagiarized by MLK. Same question, does anybody have a reliable reference to back this up.
Should I ever take an English or history/ political course I wouold want to do a research paper on MLK.

No, we did not have a special service in MLK's honor. i did bring out in a sermon during the course of the week that the most violent thing a person can do is speak out against injustice. espeacialy how it pertains to our christian faith of brotherly love. Our words have extreme power. people fight over things said. declarations of war are drafted (use of words) before we go into battle. families are broken up over the things said to one another. the power of death and life are in the tongue. since from the abundance of the heart men speak what we say is very important as to how we are percieved as followers of the Christ. So i reminded the people that words of love,speaking out against injustice, pulling down walls of separation, will turn the system of this world againt you and it is possible they may kill you for trying to be a peacemaker. no celebration of MLK but a reminder of how much the carnal man is against peace.

No, there was no formal recognition. We do thank God in prayer that He has given us people who have set examples for us IN SOME THINGS that are important. (No role model is perfect, except Jesus).

And thanks for posting that clarification! It annoys me a great deal, too, when folks confuse the two. Veterans' Day is for the living!
