that the theology of the groups such as AoG, 4 square Gospel etc actually have their theology pretty much taken from those views held by John Wesley and holiness groups prior century?

Having Gone to a Pentecostal university (COG) I know for a fact their theology is Wesleyan.

There are two groups of Pentecostals: those who came from Baptists, and those who came out of Holiness/Wesleyan churches. The former includes the Assemblies of God, and the latter includes the Church of God. Difference between the two is that the Baptist-influenced Pentecostals (AoG) believe in two experiences or works of grace -- conversion and then HS baptism with tongues; the Holiness/Wesleyan-influenced groups believe in three experiences: conversion, entire sanctification, and then HS baptism with evidence of tongues.

so at least those groups/churches can claim they have derived their doctrines from the bible, as seen thru baptist/holiness lens, unline modern charasmatics, who want to point to 1905!

No, actually that is not so. The Pentecostal movement dates back to Charles Parham and William J. Seymour in 1900-1905. Charismatic movement began much later and in the 60's Episcopal priest Dennis Bennett began it in the mainline churches.

but there seems to be a difference between the old line pentacostals and the new Charasmatics right?

As when I was in the AoG, their official positions were against teaching of word of faith prosperity etc, and they seemed to NOT hold to modern day Apsotles.prophets with ongoing revelations today?

Yes, there is a difference. Not all modern charismatics hold that tongues is the initial evidence of the HS baptism. See John Wimber's Vineyard churches, for example.
