Could someone tell me what the difference(s) are between Southern Baptist and Missionary Baptist?

Years ago, we were ABA missionary baptist, and the main difference back then was how the monies were handled. Missionary Baptist sent it directly to the missionary and the SBC had a board to disperse it. Most ABA practiced closed communion, used the kjBible, and had strict dress codes, but I think that's all changed.

There is some differences.
Depends on who you talk to, though, because sometimes there are some Southern Baptists that act like Missionary baptists, and vice versa.
The differences that I struggle with of Old Missionary Baptists are:
Closed communion
No outside people in the pulpit
landmarkism.

A church I grew up in, in their charter, says they are a missionary baptist church, but their published title is Baptist.
They had some missionary baptist tendencies early on, though.

The biggest diffrence between the two is that southern Baptist are usually set in one place where Missionary can move or change locations a lot more . I could be wrong but -shrugs- this is what I remember.

States, 11th Edition (Abingdon Press, 2001):
"National Missionary Baptist Convention
of America", founded 1988 (about 2,500,000
members in 1992).
THE ALMANAC OF THE CHRISTIAN WORLD, 1991-1992,
lists a "Baptist Missionary Association
of America" which in 1988 had 225,000 members.
(was this one of the two that merged in
1988 to form the National Missionary Baptists?)

I used to live in Hughes County Oklahoma.
The very small community of "Non" is in
Hughes county. The county seat, Holdenville,
used to have a radio station. The community
of Non had two organizations that advertized

radio station:

With whom was the Non Missionary Baptist
Church affiliated?
Anyway, I have yet to see a document that

From what I was told when I visited a Missioary Baptist Church, and found out from the Missionary Baptist Churches in my area, is Missionary Baptist Churches are generly made up of Black belivers, wheather this is true everywere, or just the churches in my area, I don't know, but every missionary Baptist church in my area is made up of black members, and let me tell you, the gosple music can set you on fire for the Lord!
The Missionary Baptist church that I am a member of is an independent MBC. We do meet with sister churches annually in our Association gathering. Our churches originated from southern Kentucky and Tennessee and there are several large Associations of MBC's some of which are, Enon, Bethel, Wiseman and others. These churches are primarily white, but like Rooster mentioned in his post, many people equate MBC's as predominantly black.
The split between the two occurred years ago and as I have always heard it was the result of the convention and authority it exercised over churches. However, I am not sure the "why" is really important today. It seems every time two Baptists disagree they split and call themselves something different. Of course, I think that is the best proof that Baptists are the closest doctrinally to the church the Lord left, otherwise Satan would not be working so hard to destroy us or to lessen our effectiveness by dividing us. Of course, we allow it, so that does not say a lot for us either.
I have visited some SBC's that I could not tell an ounce of difference doctrinally between them and the MBC. Of course, telling what a church believes, (especially a Baptist church), by the sign on the door is next to impossible today so again, I think we would be hard pressed to outline specific differences that would apply in a wholesale fashion.

I thought that was the chief difference between Original Free Will Baptists (what I was reared) and Southern Baptists (which I am now).

I as a SBC licensed preacher, was ordained by the pastor, associate pastor two deacons, two black Missionary Baptist pastors, the pastor of another Community church, and the members of the "Community Church" that i had been called to. I had preached already in the two Missionary Baptist churches after I had been licensed When I was pastor of the Community church, I use to invite the pastors with their music groups from some of these churches every other month to minister what I called a mini-revival; that would begin on Fri. eve., ending on Sun. eve.; with me preaching the Sun. morning message. We had some great fellowships. The difference in eternal security never came up. I have just had something revealed to me after many years that I never knew. Certainly I believe in eternal security. I have debated this issue many times with others, but never with a Missionary Baptist. Wonder why it never came up? Us pastors use to gather every so often at one of the churches for fellowship, coffee, and sinful eating (sweet rolls); one morning we were discussing salvation, and this pastor from one of the Missionary Baptist
churches said; "well, I have a daughter that has been baptized three times, and all she ever did was dirty up the water.
With the love Jesus gave me.
With love of GOD the Father,
With love of GOD the Son,
With love of GOD the Holy Spirit,
All three make one.

I grew up in a Missionary Baptist Church back when many of the Baptist Churches had not joined the Southern Baptist Convention. We believed the same things (as far as doctrinal beliefs) that that we, as Southern Baptist, believe now.
The only difference is that Southern Baptists believe in foreign missions and Missionary Baptist believe in home missions. I have never found any other differences in the churches I have been in.
These days a lot Missionary Baptist churches around here are black and belong to the Tennessee Baptist Convention, but there are still a few white Missionary Baptist Churches that are Independent.
My boss is black (don't call him African American cause he hasn't ever been in Africa) and a Missionary Baptist and believes exactly as I do in church doctrine. We have had many long discussions on these things. His church is an Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

I'm getting the feeling following this thread that Missionary Baptist are much the same as other Baptists in that they don't altogether agree with each other.Would that be true?the other feeling I get is that Missionary Baptists,SBC'ers,& IFB'ers have more in common than they like to admit?
I think that is a fair assessment Bro. Bill. Someone once said that every time two Baptists disagreed they started up a new church with a new name. Unfortunately, that is more right than anyone would care to admit. Still, the evidence is all around us . . . Regular Baptists, General Baptists, Fundamental Baptists, Missionary Baptists, United Baptists, Southern Baptists, and on and on and on . . .
I am a missionary baptist preacher in Nashville, TN. Yes, we share the name with "black" churches, but I don't know much about them so I will limit my discussion to the churches that I have been a member, preached at, and sat in associations with.
I will acknowledge that not all "labelled" churches believe the same.
I see so called "southern baptist" churches preach the act of "accepting Christ" by holding up your hand and repeating a prayer.
I believe that Christ draws sinners, they must then pray humbly from their own heart, and when Christ "accepts" that prayer, a spiritual regeneration is felt that cannot be reproduced by worldly means. I also believe in the permanence of salvation.
I think the biggest difference is that the Southern baptists in my area tend to receive "letters of recommendation" from other baptist churches freely, whereas we only accept letters from churches of "like faith and order".
If you want to join one of our churches and currently belong to an "alien" church, we cannot accept your letter of credit, but require that you be rebaptized.
