Recently the church I pastor has gone through a difficult situation concerning a feud between two families. It looks certain we will lose one of the families and it has shocked and upset everyone.

This is very much a prayer request but I am posting this in the pastoral section as fellow pastors/missionaries are in the best position to pray and advise.

I would appreciate prayer and perhaps advice on how to encourage and deal with a church body that has been through quite a traumatic few weeks.

I have some very good men who have much pastoral experiance that are helping me. But I thought I'd broaden it a little.

    will be praying for you.

The advice would depend on why they're are arguing or why one is leaving and which one is leaving.

In terms of your preaching, I would do 2 things.
    1. Center in on the promises of God's will, strength and guidance.

    2. See if this problem can be part of God's plan to make you a stronger church. The church in Jerusalem was stronger after the death of 2 people. Our church has gone through something like this in the last 6 months. It was and is tough, but we have seen some opportunities for ministry that we never would have known before.

Don't spend so much time on those two families that you neglect the rest of the flock. I also agree with Tom feedback.

We went through tough times--continuously--at my church until 2001. We did some healing, got some competent leadership, some troublemakers left, retired, or died, and God blessed us--numerically and (more importantly) in health.

Find something your church does (or can do) that you can feel good about. Do you have a strong youth ministry? Choir? Men's group? Is your preschool bunch doing great? Find stuff to celebrate together, if you can. Even if it's small stuff.

Been there, bro. You have my prayers.

I guess it's a little too late to tell them to grow up and act right...?

You have my prayers, brother. People are human, and tend to act in the worst way possible... even where they are supposed to be worshiping the Son of God who laid down His life for them.

My heart breaks for you my brother. This is such a hard thing to deal with in any church. It is especially hard in a smaller church where everyone knows each other and there is a temptation to take sides and widen the rift.

May God give you great wisdom here. I think that I would focus on preaching on serving and esteeming others better than self. Let me know by PM, email, or phone if there is anything I can do.

I would get the husbands of the families together with an open Bible and study the passages on conflict. If one or both refuse to repent, there is grounds for church discipline. This is a spiritual issue it sounds to me like, and needs to be dealt with spiritually. You haven't said what the argument is about, which would be helpful information, but I cannot imagine an issue that would cause families to feud that would be worthy of splitting the church over.

Thank you for the prayerful advise. The situation, as far as the church is concerned, is over. I will certainly take on board the advice offered here. Thank you.

God willing the Church can now get back to the work that God would have us do!
