    What is your view of the following disputed passages? Are they authentic Scripture or late additions?

    I answered unsure on the first one. I think there was an ending and that it was probably on the order of one of the fuller texts. Perhaps at some point was re-phrased by someone working from memory in trying to restore a lost section.

    So far, the results of this poll are fascinating. My general impression is that there is much more support for the traditional Ending of Mark than there is for the Pericope of Adultery.

    I'd be curious to know if you would preach from either of those two sections if there was doubt in your mind as to their authenticity.

    In that case, the obvious ensuing questions are:
    Are only those who believe and are baptized ['dunked'] saved?
    So you speak in other languages?
    Do you lay hands on the sick and they are healed?
    Do you pick up snakes?
    Do you drink poison and remained unharmed?

    If this a true passage of scripture, then these are the "signs of them that believe."

    All of these things happened. They were certainly signs of early believers. This "problem" is no reason to reject its authenticity. It may well not be authentic. But this is certainly not the criteria for deciding so.

    Quite a jump in logic here. What in the world led you to make this statement?? What does Peter walking on water have to do with the authenticity of any of these passages??

    No problem, mind you an anthropologist friend of mine knows some pagans who do so as well!

    Last time I was in the Appalachians, I ran across this charming little church where they did both.
