Scripture indicates that at various times the Devil tried to divert the mission of the Cross and Jesus’ atonement.

One of the first examples is where Cain killed Abel. The lineage of Abel could never produce the Promised Son, Jesus, because the Bible says that Cain was totally owned by Satan. [I John 3:12]

This is a side bar. I think the Lord would have accepted Cain’s offering of ‘the fruit of the ground,’ [Genesis 4:3] but because God said Cain’s works were evil,it is most evident that he was owned by Satan. Adam and Eve walked and talked with the Lord and their belief in Him, was counted for---via Jesus’ future atonement at the Cross. The early beginnings of the animal sacrifices began with Abraham.

With Godly Abel being dead there was no Godly heir leading to the birth of Jesus. God took care of this through Adam and Eve who had another son named Seth. The name Seth means, ‘appointed.’ The Lord had fixed Seth to raise up a Godly seed leading to the virgin’s first born son, Jesus.

Later in time Jacob was the lineage that lead to Jesus holy birth, and not Esau. Esau had no Israeli tribe named after his name.

Then during Jesus early life Herod tried to kill this rival to his throne. Behind it all was the Evil One trying to divert Jesus from going to the Cross. We thank God that He overshadowed and ordained the substitute death, on our behalf, that we might through His mighty power receive everlasting life.

Some other brethren may offer up other examples of how this fallen archangel tried to stop the crucifixion of our Lord.

Also, the Temptation of Jesus was another attempt of the Devil to divert the old rugged Cross.

this fallen archangel, no doubt, had a previous position of some authority and he (lucifer/ satan) must have been privy, early on, to the plan of salvation and how it would be executed.

as far as I know, there are only three archangels mentioned in the Bible: Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer.

Lucifer fell to the Earth (Rev 12:13) with a THIRD of the angels --

    Rev
    12:3
And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

    12:4
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

(stars can be sybolically angels - Rev 1:20)

Lucifer was a "big wig" in heaven, until he sinned and was cast down to Earth (Ezek. 28:12-17 / Isa 14:12-15).

He was one part of a TRINITY: Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer.

And ever since his demise, the Devil, the great deceiver (Rev. 12:9) has been deceiving us by having us think we are going to heaven (where Lucifer wants to be) and that God is a TRINITY (what Lucifer was once part of).

Please, think hard about this. Luke calls the Holy Spirit "the power of the Highest" (lk 1:35).

Jesus says "no man has ascended up to heaven" (Jn 3:13). There is a spirit being who wants us to believe the opposite.

    Ephesians
    6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Thanks Wopik for your insights. I never through of the three archangels as in Trinity, but it sure was a triad. I liked your part where you said that Lucifer must have had deep insights about the future atonement of Jesus. Good thoughts!

Cain's offering would not be acceptable as a "burnt offering" or a "sin offering". It is shown in Lev to be an acceptable "thank offering" but all sin offerings required the death of the animal.

You are right to point out that Satan was working against the Gospel from the moment it was proclaimed in Gen 3.

    In Christ,

    Bob
