Do not post copyrighted material

I found that I had resorted to posting a full article several times when it was off of CNN news as they do not give individual URL's for their stories. When I read your post, I tried to think of a way around this. I think what would work would be if I copied it to myself on a Word file and then posted as you ask above. Then also inform any readers that they may contact me for the full article via email. That should be OK...

 

Copywrited materials are just that, copywrited. When we find an interesting article on the WWW, be it on CNN, the article usually have an option icon for "printer friendly" or "print" options. This command usually compresses the article, withouth all the other stuff. We can, and should, provide that ULR (or link) when we quote an eye cathing paragraph from the whole article. I think this is what the Webmaster was referring to (give credit where credit is due).

 

Bumping this to to the top because we've had some questions about edits of super long articles.

According to internet fair-use law, you can post up to 25% of a copyrighted article. You must post a link to the article. You should also mention the title, author and source. For example---

Most Baptists are Fine Folks

by Jane Jones, MSNBC News

<Excerpt from article>

Post link to MSNBC website under the excerpt.


That's all there is to it, and you'll be completely legal. You'll also save BaptistBoard a lot of bandwidth and possible legal problems.

Some people, who I suspect were admonished in the past, now post only the url. It would be far better for the discussion if they would also post a summary or the opening paragraph and their own take on why it's interesting, imnsho.

 

If one quotes someone else's information it should be short, to the point, and related to the discussion.

BTW: I might read one out of twenty posted articles (or, links to articles). I have found that the ones that I have read: have not been related to the discussion; have been misrepresented as intending a different view than the article itself actually represented; and was merely used as fodder.

 

I post some of the devotionals that I get rom Lancaster Baptist Church - well, I asked Dr Chappell if that was ok, and he said he was thrilled!!!

Like it or not it is the official policy of the BB and as welcomed guests to this forum we all must abide by the Webmaster's policies. Therefore, the requirement for us not to post copyrighted material is extremely relevant.
