Do We Need These Versions Too?

Folks, I don't know, but I think it has just gone too far. I mean, really, examine these versions: http://cyber-coenobites.blogspot.com/2011/04/yet-more-bible-translations.html

Next thing you know, someone will come out with the "Cell Phone Addict Version" or the "Pizza Lovers Version." :tonofbricks:

Of course it was all a spoof. Yet sometimes something humorous has an element of truth behind it.

All the very specialized versions these days are actually editions of recognized Bible translations. They aren't new versions. And yes,I think they are silly.

Of course it reminds me of the "Cabbage Patch Bible." Which was apparently a serious effort!

Mmmm, pizza! Oh, pardon my lack of focus; I was gonna' say that they're not just (April) foolin' about really silly editions either. Its ridiculous. I can't even understand the way people chase after the latest 'study' Bible.

"Because it's there," maybe. Seems to me there are Bible translation fads among Christians. Just have to have the latest, whatever it is! :type:

I think John has hit nail on head here. I like various versions. I don't mind the few errors that seem to appear in some because I view the overall text rather than isolated words or verses. I do the same with my KJV,my main bible, and compare the variations new editions offer to MY understanding, based on my basic theological overview.

Cheers,

Jim

My problem is not that I can't understand the KJV Bible I have, so I have to buy a new translation. It's that I understand the one I have pretty well--and the old flesh gives me a hard time when I seek to obey it!
