Rush:

"So they gotta do everything they can to take Trump out. Polling is one of the weapons that they’ve got, and I have no doubt that the polls are being used today to create public opinion to depress Trump support, to dispirit Trump support, and to energize Hillary Clinton support. And, you’re right, as we get nearer the election, you can bank on the results being more accurate, because, at the end of the day these polling units are only as credible as their accuracy. As you get nearer the election, the polling units will more accurately reflect what they find, because when the election’s all over, they all want to be able to say they pegged it, they got it right."

Laughable. We are to believe there is a conspiracy by polling companies to destroy their reputations in an effort to prop up Hillary Clinton.

As we get nearer to election day, the poll leads for Hillary will widen. By then Trump will have been destroyed in the debates and the Democrats strategic ground game of getting out the vote and buying of TV and radio ads will have blanketed the airwaves. Meanwhile Trump will have rallies to dwindling crowds as he continues blow off both feet with sawed-off shotguns and stacks of ammunition on his way to defeat.

Donald Trump is doing a fine job of depressing his support, of dispiriting his supporters all by himself. It's amazing that the finger pointing is already started and we're 3 months away from the election. That's how sad the GOP has become.

Shows you did not read the op. Anyway I am two for two today. I knew when I posted this, this is where you would go.

If Trump could shoot someone and not lose his supporters, per Trump himself, am I really suppose to believe that those same supporters would balk at voting for him because of poll results?
This is just Trump's MO, it's never his fault when things are bad, but he will take full credit for things that are good. Of course I expect nothing less from a democrat than passing blame on to everyone else for his failure.

Your Thread: [Are] Liberals Are Using Polls As A Weapon To Discourage Trump Supporters?
Polling is one of the weapons that they’ve got, and I have no doubt that the polls are being used today to create public opinion to depress Trump support, to dispirit Trump support, and to energize Hillary Clinton support.

So I answer "Laughable. We are to believe there is a conspiracy by polling companies to destroy their reputations in an effort to prop up Hillary Clinton."

That is a direct answer to the question you asked in your thread. How in the world do you accuse me of not reading the op?

Back to the OP....Were polling companies propping Trump up in the primary season because they wanted to dispirit support for Bush, Fiorina, Carson, Kasich, Rubio and Cruz? The polls were accurate and welcomed by Trump supporters in the primary season. Now that we are in the general election, which is a different animal from the primaries, they are "rigged" and used by liberals to deflate support for Trump. Again, laughable.

Where do you all get the idea that the primary polls this year were THAT accurate?

I think they're polling too often but I don't know if Rush is right. Could be:

1. He is right, the MSM and the DNC is working together again and FOX News is, too, they are pretty anti-Trump over there except for Hannity.

2. It's not deliberate deception, it's confirmation bias - the pollsters are getting the results they want by manipulation without realizing it.

3. The polls are correct, the RCP average is the reality. Could be, don't see it but bias can cut both ways.

The reason I tend not to believe the first scenario is that it would be very early to try to suppress the vote using this method - the election is still three months away and it could make Hillary voters complacent and backfire.

Yes, you got me. I should have clarified. They were "accurate" insofar as their usual accuracy. What I should have said was, Trump supporters loved the polls in the primary when they showed their candidate was winning; now that they are showing him losing, they're rigged.

Not sure if individual companies are polling too often, just that there are so darn many polling companies putting out polls. Add in the state-based polls by newspapers and TV stations and you get a couple of polls a day, it seems.

I think the answer is mostly #2. So when a poll says Hillary is leading by 10 points, it's probably more like 6 points.

And that is a problem why?

Self-delusion. The polls are wonderful when their guy is leading. When he's losing then there is a conspiracy to rig the polls.

Ooooorrrrrr. the polls were right before and not now because circumstances are changed. So no, there is not a problem with that.

What circumstances? Yes, the Reuters (?) poll did change their methodology, but otherwise I believe all other polls are using the same techniques as before.

I haven't heard anything about any other polls. Have you heard that Gallup, Quinnipiac, Marist, WSJ/NBC, CNN, Rasmussen, etc. have changed their methodology?

And we should trust the people that take the polls to give honest and unskewed answers why?

That's human nature, this is just a case where personal bias trumps objectivity. IOW, you will believe good news and discount bad news but Trump hasn't been saying anything about the latest polls, except that they're rigged. He could be getting different internal polling results.

I'm really not that freaked out that polling methodology is changing, just that Reuters happened to change it in a way that helps Hillary a lot. But their methods need to change because the voting populace and technology is dynamic, so the goal is to change it to improve accuracy.

But then, you can just throw in the towel, and that's what Gallup did after they predicted a Romney +1 win the day before the 2012 election. And the 2014 polling was just horrendous, pollster missed most races by a mile.
