Do you have a systematic way of 'marking' your bible?

The only thing I use is those long yellow markers you find at the christian bookstores. Like a crayon, but you keep twisting it as it uses itself up.

I have no systematic way of doing it. I just yellow a passage when I get a blessing out of it, or for some other reason that I want it to stand out.

I use an ultra fine blue ink pen, blue so I can easily see my notes and ti doesn't blend in, I also use a dry highlighter (doesn't bleed trhough)I got from the christians store. No certain colors or symbols.

 

I used to use a dry highlighter, I haven't done that in awhile though

 

I stick clear tape over verses of special significance to me, this way I don`t mark the book. Notes are written in the margin with a very fine nibbed pen. :wavey:

 

regular tape has acid in it and will slowly eat through your pages. ever see that yellow discoloration under tape thats been on paper a few years? thats the acid. you need to try and use acid free tape in your bible.

 

I never mark my Bibles.

No Spiritual issue...I just press hard when I write.

I use a notebook that goes wherever my Bible does.

 

Thanks DonnA - I have made this mistake in the past, but due to you and my daughter being Scrapping fans have learned to avoid it and now use the acid free type .... I should have stated that in my post, and hope readers look further down the page x.

 

I don't mark my Bibles. It looks messy to me.
I have a little NT that I use for personal evangelism that I put different topics with corresponding references in the front for easy reference. But nothing more than that.

 

My husband doesn't write in his bible either, he just likes the fresh clean page.
For me and my bible, it means it is well used, well loved, I mark things God brings to my attention, make notes what I beleive He's saying to me about it.

 

This is an interesting thread to see how people mark their Bibles, or don't mark their Bibles. My sister, for example, does not put a single mark in any Bible.

I on the other hand always mark my Bibles. I first used highlighters that didn't bleed through but now use crayons. I use those "Twistables" by Crayola because you can twist them back into the holder. They come in all kinds of colors, though some are too light to use in the Bible.

I also will write something in the margin for different reasons.

The problem is that after I've marked up a Bible, I want to get a new one.

Same here. I don't like to mark my Bibles. I didn't even like to mark my books in college.

 

I thought of some sort of crayon, but you can't write over the wax. What about colored pencils? I have used those in the past, but only in yellow.

 

The Crayola twistables? I use them for underlining rather than highlighting - they are better for underlining but it's a thick underline so it stands out.

If I'm going to write something, it's out to the side, so I don't need to write over or through the crayon.

I tried colored pencils but got tired of them breaking off or having to sharpen them. In fact, I ended up destroying a few just by trying to sharpen them! I was never good at pencil sharpening.

Also, colored pencils look too dark to me sometimes, depending on the color. I really have found I like the Crayola Twistables the best.

 

I started out using a fine nib fountain pen, but switched to a ball-point pen when they came out. I used pencil at other times, but over time the pencil fades out,then, I have been marking my Bible since 1945. Any bare space is a target for me.

I almost bought a loose-leaf Bible, thinking that adding pages would really be useful.......never got around to it!
