I almost forgot about this topic already until this morning.
Nobody has answers ?
Does anybody know anything written about George A. Young, the songwriter ?
I've googled him and all I came out, even in Wilkipedia, were about a rapper, some royalty, and another musician.
All I know about the songwriter is that he was an obscure 19th century preacher who struggled between serving his Master and preaching His message and earning a living for his family.
Then finally he was able to build them a home, and some thugs who hated him for his preaching burned it down.
Amazing how God reveals His truths to obscure people.
Obscure shepherds in the field.
Obscure fishermen.

I don't know how accurate it is, but it seemed pretty interesting. I guess I don't understand your problem with these lyrics. Can you elaborate what you don't agree with?

What basis? Try the book of Hebrews. Don't have the time, right now to look up the verses, but it is there, speaking of Jesus shedding his blood, once and for all time for sin, as the New sacrifice, which 'took over' and supplanted the "blood of bulls and goats", which merely 'covered sin' until the better sacrifice should come, namely the once for all time offering of the Lord on Mt. Moriah.

Someday maybe, someone is going to respond to my last sentence, here, but it so far has not happened in a year plus. I'm still a-waitin'. :tongue3:

I grew up singing that song.

I think the Old Testament saints were saved the same way we are today. They looked forward to the coming of the Messiah, we look back on His coming. Gal. 3:6 says, "Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness." We know the details of the Messiah's coming, but they did not. But they still believed God.
