Doctrinal Differances

The main difference is in separation. IFB's refuse to cooperate with any other church.
It is important to note that the SBC is not a denomination but a cooperative of Independent Baptist Churches. Now within that cooperative there are liberal churches and Fundamental conservative churches.

It depends on your personal stance, and where you fall in the conservative/liberal spectrum...
Some I see as Conservative.. others may see as liberal.
What Rev is trying to say... (I THINK>>> LOL) is that within the SBC there is a wide range of differing churches...
Same as in the ABC/USA... which I am a part of... I would fall on the conservative side within our denomination.
Although.. I am probably more liberal when IFBs view my stance...
Conservative/liberal is in the eye of the beholder...
As for the OP... Rev is right.. ecclesiastical seperation is the real key to understanding the differences...

That's not true. The difference between SBC and IFB generally does have to do with separation, but it does not follow that IFB churches do not cooperate with any other church. IFB churches generally cooperate with other IFB churches.
The reason cooperaton becomes so important is the cooperative program and SBC Churches emphasis on missions. If our smaller SBC Church in Ohio didn't cooperate in missions how limited would we be in trying to fulfill the great comission? I would assume that there are some conservative and liberal Churches in both groups. Although the SBC has been doing some house cleaning there for a number of years now. :godisgood: :jesus:

In my town of Norman Oklahoma the most 'liberal' (actually more liberal than the grandaughters - in other words (i.e.) moderate) church is the First Baptist Church of Norman, Oklahoma. It contributes both to the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) and MSBC (Main Stream Baptist Convention)
My smaller Local Church, a grandaughter church of the FBC-Norman, is highly Conservative, well more than FBC-Norman and less than most IFB - independent fundamental Baptist churches.

That's been my experience as an SBC pastor. My dad lived in Florida for awhile and while he lived there he became a part of a couple of IFB Churches. When I came to visit and go to Church with him he would always introduce me. The one Church a layman met us before we went into the sanctuary and when he asked what type of Church I pastored I said southern baptist. He said, "Oh I'm sorry".
I said that's ok I'm not and I forgot about it. A few years later when he attended another one I visited on fathers day. The pastor called me by name and let the Church know that ball players and movie stars were not their heros but pastors adn missionaries. Then he proceeded to have me stand at the back of the sanctuary and the folks came by and gave me money as they left morning worship service. He said we could go out to eat and have a great fathers day that way. Attitudes vary among those two groups!!!:laugh: :godisgood: :jesus:

I have been an IFB my whole life. I have never been affiliated in anyway with the SBC. I know for a fact that many IFB churches cooperate with other churches. I have preached for the meetings of these churches. I have planned and helped to plan the cooperative efforst.
So when you say that IFB churches do not cooperate with other churches, you are simply wrong.
It may be that the IFB churches you were a part of did not, but that doesn't fairly represent other IFB churches.
Not very. As a pastor of a very small IFB church, I can assure you we have way more opportunities to fulfill the great commission than we have resources.
However, it is interesting that associate fulfilling the GC with supporting missionaries. I disagree. A church that doesn't support any missionaries can be very active in fulfilling the GC.
I haven't found this to be true. Most of my experience with SBC folks has been here at the BB, and they are among some of the most rude, arrogant, "my way or the highway" kind of posters here. They are as bad as the IFB posters to be honest. And that is shameful.

Separation is biblical, but I don't know of any church that has ever said that means no cooperating with other churches. Hyles didn't even believe that. Hyles type churches (which are unquestionably some of the worst kind of churches that have ever been known) would cooperate with other like churches (kept them from contaminating other churches, which was good).
But the idea that IFB churches don't cooperate with other churches is just wrong on its face. Mission agencies like Baptist World Mission and Baptist Mid Missions are the result of the cooperation of IFB churches. Many states have state associations such as the Independent Fundamental Baptist Association of Michigan or the Minnesota Baptist Fellowship. And there are many other examples.

It seems too many people these days are trying to bring God down to them instead of lifting themselves up to God through faith, obedience, prayer and bible study. We are supposed to be conformed to His image, not conform His image to ours.
