DOD lists $12.8B ‘unused’ funds for border wall Construction

The Pentagon has found $12.8 billion in funded projects that could potentially be used for the southern border wall.

After a review of the military construction budget, the Defense Department produced a list of 400 funded military construction projects totaling $12.8 billion that could be tapped for the border wall construction under President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday.

Democrat Sen. Jack Reed tweeted the 20-page document that identifies each project by military branch and state, and identifies any unused funds from fiscal year 2015 and newer.

It’s not unused. That is a misnomer. I wish you guys could hear some of the conference calls I’ve been on lately and you could here the frustration from Marine Corps and Navy leadership when they tell me the projects we are trying to fund are in jeopardy because of the wall initiative. I promise you, this is going over like a lead balloon in the DoD. We are now screwing around with actual military readiness at this point. That money is not “unsused.” It is being ripped away from projects that need reprogramming for potential awards that bid higher than the original program.

Obama, not Trump, is the reason the military is in bad shape.

Obama has nothing to do with the list on the chopping block. If you’d rather have a wall then the projects on that list then your concerns about the military’s shape are nothing more than crocodile tears.

By amputating key projects? The article should read, “Trump compromises military readiness for futile campaign promise.”

I see no less than ten projects on that list that I’ve been waiting to get funded and have personally worked on.

Without the largest and most terrifying military machine in the history of the world we will lose WWIII, unless of course the Lord returns then we will learn war no more.

Exactly. So maybe now isn’t the time for kneecapping our MILCON projects for a stupid wall.

billion is less than a drop in the bucket compared to trillion.
One compromise - offer all able bodied immigrant males without a criminal record citizenship for a stint in the military.

Works for the French, it's called the French Foreign Legion. After five years of service, a Legionnaire is eligible for French citizenship. If he is wounded inside the five years, he is automatically eligible. They call it French by blood.

It’s almost like you didn’t read your own article. It’s hilariius how everyone is saying Trump is fixing the military while posting articles that in fact show the opposite. Again, I really wish you guys could hear these component commands talking about their projects being sacrificed for the wall. They certainly aren’t singing Trumps praises right now.

Ridiculous, the wall is a fraction of 1% of the military budget amount!

Nonsense. Obama put the military in terrible shape. Trump is rebuilding it.

Military spending has been a key focus for Trump before and after his election, with 2018′s soaring defense budget of $700 billion expected to rise even more to $716 billion next year, far more than China and Russia spend on defense.

The two-year defense-spending spike is necessary to return the U.S. military to a superior, combat-ready fighting force, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis said earlier this year. Under Trump, the military is also receiving its biggest pay raise in nearly 10 years.
