the spiritual and doctrinal condition of their faith? Does one believe that a political view would not effect their spiritual condition? this doesn't mean the loss of salvation based on political views, but i would ask if a political view would go so contrary to Gods word that a person would be leaning into spiritual bankruptcy?

may i also add this>>>

liberal vs. conservative thought>>>>

A young teenage girl was about to finish her first
year of college. She considered herself to be a very
liberal Democrat and her father was a rather staunch
Republican.

One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs
and his opposition to programs like welfare. He
stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school.

She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA, but it was really
tough. She had to study all the time, never had time
to go out and party and often went sleepless because
of all the studying.

She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really
have many college friends because of all her studying.

He then asked how her friend Mary, who was attending
the same college, was doing.

She replied that she was barely getting by. She had a
2.0 GPA, never studied, was very popular on campus,
and was at parties all the time. She often didn't go
to classes because she was hung over.

He then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the
Dean's office and ask why she couldn't take 1.0 off
her 4.0 and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0.
That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA.

The daughter fired back and said "That wouldn't be
fair, I worked really hard for mine and my friend has
done nothing."

The father smiled and said: "Welcome to the
Republican Party".

hmm

that example would be great if we all lived in meritocracies - but we don't.

a persons political stance has nothing to do with their salvation - much as I am sure you wish that all 'liberals' would burn in hell.

jim i believe you are correct you do not know much about the american political partys, for instance do you know that the liberal left wing democrats are for abortion, gay special rights and promoting dangerous NEA social sciences to very young school children, do you know the left wing fights the freedom of Gods word in any situation. The democrats trample law abiding citizens thier right to own guns and protect their familys. i could go on and on but you will see they perfer evolution other then to acknowledging Gods mariculas creation by speaking this earth into existence.

as for the other comment: that i would wish liberals to burn in hell was a very uncalled for remark. it is true i do not like liberal agendas but i would love to see them turn to the Lord.

also jim you put a lot of trust in government if you believe a socialist government could be moral and fair to distribute wealth, it is better to let each individual give according to what he would give. the government should be limited it is always best for freedoms sake.
thank you for your opinion

jim also i reread your comment about this>>>>I don't think we can begin to believe that Christian leadership has been any more evident in the Republican Party than in the Democratic Party. <<<<

you have missed this observation by far. where do you get your info that would have you believe that the republican party being equally as lame as the democratic party in leadership or other?
you could study most conservative leadership rolls vs. the much inept democrat roll and see how the democrats bend over backwards to belittle Christians and their beliefs

jim you have your facts wrong you are talking about capitol punishment in texas that tops most states in caparison, put look at the statistics for concealed carry from state to state and you will see crime fell dramatically in every area concealed carry is allowed. jim wouldn't you want to be able to defend yourself and family if you were driving in a neighborhood that was not so desirable? what if your car broke down?
it is the Christian thing to do is safe guard yourself and family. it all goes hand in hand as to how the left wing assaults Christians and law abiding citizens rights. shame on them and those who support their cause

Ad hominem attacks on individuals focus our attention off of issues.

In US politics the liberal agenda is dramatically anti-biblical. It is opposed to free enterprise (a part of even the Kingdom to come), and in favor of most social vices. The Democrat party is strongs pro-abortion, pro-women's lib, anti-home and family, pro-welfare, pro-socialism, etc. It then takes from the rich to give to the poor.

Jesus taught just the opposite (read his stories about the "talents" - the one who didn't work Jesus said take it from him and give it to the one with ten! About the opposite of the graduated income tax!)

Now the problem is many Christians here see the Republican party as the panacea to all societal ills. That, sadly, is not the case. But it IS much closer to a christian mind-set than the liberals.

p.s. Jim, I know you are easily offended when someone speaks ill (or attacks) Canada. Proud of your heritage? Well, we feel the same here, especially when outsiders attack the US system.

Enough said?

I don't see the Christian system the same and even the social system does not support for those who will not work, although some do fall through. Better to feed than not; better to clothe than not; better to provide shelter than to leave in the cold...Sort of like the good Samaritan. We don;t know anything about the bloke he helped out without question.

Cheers,

Jim

As others have said, I think you might have this backwards -- but a lot of people do...

Our political beliefs should be founded on our faith in Christ. While our political views are certainly going to be influenced by our culture and peers, we need to constantly reexamine our positions, search the scriptures and seek the wisdom of our Lord.

My political views tend to be an offshoot of my faith, but I recognize the tensions from the world and know that some of my political views may be off-balance (for instance, my view of the death penalty).

But often the political differences between Christians stems not so much from differences in our understanding of scripture, but differences of opinion regarding the best and fairest way to promote justice, compassion and human welfare.

It gets complicated and everyone thinks they are correct... :D

Why does this remind me of the Prodigal Son's Brother?

reading back through the thread, I see the discussion has motivated Jim to say he is leaving. Now, that begs an important question. How does the relationship between your politics and faith affect your ability to go out to him in Christian love? so far there is no attempt in this forum.

If this relationship between politics and faith is a force for good I would have expected some Christian charity here.

please dont ignore this, it may be the most important application of your thoughts in practical terms within the fellowship of the board

yours, Jon.

I agree Jon. Why is it that some posters, (and it is just a handful of posters and usually the same ones everytime), cannot stick to debating the issues, but feel they have to launch a personal attack on a person who disagrees with them, or his country, or his personal beliefs???

It doesn't sound very Christ-like to me! [IMG]

Yes I agree Sue and Jon. And it always seems to be the same people over and over that get by with it!

have i missed something here? i do not believe that i have made personal attacks to anyone, if my views are taken personally then i should not be rebuked. i do not think jim should have taken offense so easily about a disagreement. ( jims disagreement maynot have come from me) when is it such a crime to speak about a discussion on issues that i post? every discussion or differing opinion is a persons belief system, does all discussions need to be watered down to suit everyone's ego? i need to think this forum over some, as i feel that my input is not welcome here. i am sure many will be glad that i leave.
may God bless this forum
