Listen to the following radio phone call, and tell me, what do you really think about the entitled folks of America, and what would Jesus say or do about this kind of attitude?

As a believer this disgusts me, and it is what America is becoming. What can we as the church do to bring change in the mind-set of these Americans?

rd2, Lucy should consider the ant and become wise.

Folks deliberately living off of "gubbermint" funds don't realize it but they have become State Slaves. They just don't realize it yet.

I worked all through High School, joined the military and haven't stopped working yet. I'm 69 now and still working a part-time job after retiring in '05. Work is honorable and good for the soul.

Folks like Lucy have been hood-winked into considering herself "entitled" which is a liberal game plan to keep the votes coming in. A sad day for America, indeed.

Those who need it often can't get any assistance and those who could otherwise fend for themselves get all they want. One day though the chickens will come home to roost.

This is nothing to be disgusted by. People have taken to trying to find this type of caller in order to make political points. We all know that there are extremes and this is one of them.

This type of wefare recipient is acting the way she is in part because she's probably seen and heard the interviews like this done by political conservatives to expose what they think are travesties of the welfare system. The whole call sounds too extreme in touching on all the stereotypes that folks have been led to believe about folks on welfare. So much so that it sounds scripted and fake.

The church doesn't need to be involved with this type of "we're not gonna do this because of this type of person". That type of conversation is about POLITICS. God has tasked us to do certain things. Out of obedience to HIM, do those things and stop worrying about who "deserves" what.

It's like this:

Police Capture Millionaire Couple Living Off Welfare, Medicaid On Yacht...

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A South Florida couple accused of living a lavish lifestyle while collecting food stamps and other forms of public assistance from the state of Florida and Minnesota have been captured at Port Everglades.
Prosecutors have described Colin Chisolm, III and his wife Andrea as, “rich folks ripping off the system.”

Authorities said the Chisolm’s committed fraud by receiving public assistance while living on a $1.2 million yacht while also collecting Medicaid, food stamps and cash welfare assistance from the state of Florida, while also collecting benefits from the state of Minnesota.

In the state of Minnesota’s criminal complaint against Colin Chisolm, the state said the couple “failed to report nearly $3 million deposited in bank accounts which they owned, controlled, or used to support their lifestyle.

Let the government deal with abuses of the government system. There's no need for God's people to lose any sleep over it.

I say it is our concern!

It's like this:

Let the government deal with abuses of the government system. There's no need for God's people to lose any sleep over it.

It is not the governments money .... it is our money. I know because everytime I eat out, buy gas, purchase something from the store, or pay taxes to the feds and state in April each year, I am reminded that it is your money and mine and everyone who lives and works in the USA's money that our elected officials use to help out the less fortunate.

If you want to be complacent and let the feds play loose with your tax dollars, fine. I don;t and I say I have a choice.

Because I minister to people from around the world, it would shock you to know that we are one of few countries that subsidise our people. Most countries, granted second and third world countries, do nothing for the unemployed and unable to work folks. So, the entitled in this country should treat this system with more respect, and use it for the safety net it was originally intended, not a way of life!

Is this a problem? You tell me.

In total, the Census Bureau estimated, 151,014,000 Americans out of a population then estimated to be 306,804,000 received benefits from one or more government programs during the last three months of 2011. Those 151,014,000 beneficiaries equaled 49.2 percent of the population.

This included 82,457,000 people--or 26.9 percent of the population--who lived in households in which one or more people received Medicaid benefits.

Also among the 151,014,000 who received benefits from one or more government programs during that period: 49,901,000 who collected Social Security; 49,073,000 who got food stamps; 46,440,000 on Medicare; 23,228,000 in the Women, Infants and Children program, 20,223,000 getting Supplemental Security Income;13,433,000 who lived in public or subsidized rental housing; 5,098,000 who got unemployment; 3,178,000 who got veterans' benefits; and 364,000 who got railroad retirement benefits.

Makes it tough to vote out lousy politicians that will pay for your vote. But, then, that's the goal.

Really? When so many people are replacing God in their lives with an omnipotent all providing government that seeks to own them, body and soul.?

We shouldn't be concerned at all? Not even to sound the alarm?

Clarification of terminology here

Social Security and Medicaid are not welfare programs as those receiving them have paid into the system. I realize that some folks receive more than they paid into, and others receive nothing. However, the proper name for the SS program is the FICA - Federal Insurance Contribution Act - so it is similar to any insurance program - some get more, some get less (yes, I understand it is required to participate - but that is another discussion)

Welfare, food stamps, WIC, ect are actual welfare - nothing was done to EARN that money. They should be called give-a-way programs.

On one hand, I can understand that someone may need some temporary help - for a short period of time. But this lady in the OP stated she has been on for years, just as her mother was. - It appears this will be an endless cycle.

Lets add insult to injury - The govt will make a big deal about taking away the drivers license of those who are convicted of DWI and those men who fall behind on Child Support payments. !Well, the govt is getting tough on these folks
There is a program here in Onondaga County - "RIDES TO WORK" The county contracts with local taxi companies to provide a person with a ride to work if they do not have a vehicle or a license. Some of the folks I drove - would have a meter reading of 30-50 dollars - one way! Many of them were because of DWI or not able to pay child support. - By the way - there was no charge to the individual for this service. I will note - this was only temporary - about 6 months.

America does not have a problem - we have a challenge to overcome.

It's the government's money. It's got the government on it. And the government can tkae as much of it as they want. SO give to the government what is the governments and to Jesus what is His.

If they want to take it and give it to folks who don't work, it is what it is.

If you want to be complacent and let the feds play loose with your tax dollars, fine. I don;t and I say I have a choice.

Yes we have a choice over whether we are going to be consumed over and give such a large part of our time and energies to something as non-eternal as money or to use said time and energies pursuing the things of God.

Because I minister to people from around the world, it would shock you to know that we are one of few countries that subsidise our people. That's because the governments of those countries take from everyone and keep for themselves. In the US, at least they attempt to get it back to some of the indigent.

Stop getting so caught up in issues of money. There will always be somebody doing something that conservatives thinks takes money out of their pockets. Get over it and get back to God and His work.

The concern being expressed ain't about their eternal souls but about them getting money without working.

If the concern is for their eternities, then share the Gospel with them and don't worry that they are getting STUFF and not working to get it.

Lead them to repentance and Christ and prayerfully HE will change their behavior.
