My question for EVERYONE here is:
Does ANY of this matter IF we just keep the "Golden Rule":

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength."

    and then:

    "Love your neighbor as yourself."

    Because:

"You show that you love me if you keep my commands."

    The answer is:
    NO

An even bigger question is, do you really think YOU can do that?

Even David, a man after God's own heart, failed to do as you say. After all He killed a neighbor in order to steal his wife. If David could not, what make you think you can? So, even though your proposition is commendable, it is not do-able. That is why it is absolutely essential to have faith in Jesus Christ, being 'sold out' to him, because we are not able to what you say is necessary.

When the crowds asked Jesus or the apostles what must they do to be saved, what was the answer.

If we are commanded to do something, I would hope that we would be given all we need to do it.

    His commandments are not grievous.

His yoke is easy and his burden is light.

If I find that I need work in doing the commandments well or maybe I need more wisdom just to understand what they really mean, I am not going to be frustrated over a complex and mysterious debate such as this one. It doesn't mean that I am not interested. So I ask for wisdom and wait patiently.

Nevertheless, I feel right to focus on the commandments and lay those bricks upon the foundation of faith in the Christ. If I can't get that line of bricks straight and sturdy, then why try to add a row above it? When the inspector comes by, he is going to point out what is wrong with my house.

A lot of you gave excusses! That totally shocked me! If Jesus gave a command, why would you say you COULDN'T do it!

I CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Just because YOU can't, does not mean that He can't! Honestly, the statements above were JUST like saying: "Why try to not sin? No one other than Jesus has, so why even try?"

But to answer the question, "Do YOU really think YOU can do that?"

    The answer is: NO!
Why: Because I'm human and have faults!

I'm going to make mistakes! YOU are going to make mistakes! We know this. We should ALL attempt it though!

    In Closing:
If you have never made a mistake, please say so. I will immediately cease from responding to this post.

Not trying is the same as not doing.

If we keep the Golden Rule, yes. If we JUST keep the Golden rule? No.

As for those who say "we can't keep it". I endeavor to keep it every day. Most days, I succeed. Sometimes I fail. When I fail, I ask for giveness, and make amends. When I succeed, I recognize it, so that I may do it again, and I give thanks for succeeding.

But could you do this minus the convicting and sanctifying influence of the Holy Spirit?

First off, does everyone here believe that if we "call on the name of Jesus we will be saved"?
    -I do

That's what I believe you are saying.

But, also remember that Jesus also said that every law and command was built upon this. All of the others are really what we could consider "sub-categories"(Just more detailed), if you think about it! :D

    CubeX,

You just made the Calvinists point. It is through Christ that we can do all things, but it is not of ourselves because we are all totally depraved in and of ourselves. Calvinists believe it is Christ who saves us and does the good work in us, and not by works lest any man should boast. This is what the Bible teaches.

Arminians teach that we are saved by God through our own work (free-will / choice). This is a works salvation which is void of Biblical teaching and full of worldly wisdom.

But did I not just also mix the two by saying it is by our choice of calling on the name of the Lord? :D

    Food for thought huh?

The real point is, salvation is from God. It is for man. If we keep His commands, we show that we love Him? God loves him who loves Him. God will not reject the ones He loves.

I think that was more of a "buffet for thought". I'm sure I'm gonna have to post the scriptures they came from!

Me personally? Nope. It's by Grace of God, the Salvation of Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit that I've got the strength and will to adhere to the GR.

    Hi CubeX,

I always have to cook for myself. So I enjoy watching cooking shows (smile).

My grandfather was a baker with his own shop in Chicago during the depression.

It's always interesting to see someone take flour, salt, baking powder, raw eggs, sugar, cream and butter, mix them together add some heat and make something tasty.

    Dave.
