Does "Doctrines of Grace" = Calvanism?

The fact that we are saved by grace through faith is not indicative of Calvinism. It is 'simply' biblical.

The doctrines which have been built around that statement can go either way. Some of them disagree with Bible and some of them agree with Bible.

 

Yes, Doctrines of Grace is another shorthand term, like Calvinism, to express a sotierology that holds to the sovereignty of God in salvation. Some use 'Doctrines of Grace' instead of Calvinism, because the name 'Calvin' can be a stumbling block to some.

 

Unfortunately, it's easy to misunderstand the term "doctrines of grace". Arminius believed we are saved by Grace, so you could easily call Arminianism a doctrine of grace. The term "Calvinism" is much more easily understood as to what it defines. Several of us here who haven't even read Calvin still refer to ourselves as Calvinists, because we know what the term implies.

 

I appreciate that response. Another 'name' for Calvinism is Reformed Doctrine(s). To refer to that as "Doctrines of Grace" is to pre-empt something in Ephesians (and other places in the Bible) and use it to define a doctrine which is very much in dispute among Christians.

I am neither Calvinist nor Arminian, but I know we are saved by grace through faith!
