"The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all WORKERS of iniquity." Psalm 5:5 (KJV) [emphasis mine]

Time after time I've been told that while God hates sin, He loves the sinner.

Here David seems to say that the Lord hates those who work iniquity, i.e., the sinner himself.

Is this a correct interpretation of this verse?

If God does hate sinners, then we're all in trouble! I don't think that's what this verse means, but then, what DOES it mean?

Does God send the sin or the sinner to hell? I believe what Psalm 5:5 says. God hates the wicked.

Where does the Bible say that God hates sin yet loves the sinner?

I haven't found the verse that says God hates sin, but loves the sinner. Many folks claim that God loves everything that moves & everything that doesn't. The standard for ALL things concerning God MUST be His word.

Will God turn any into hell that He does not hate? Workers are people. Hands that shed innocent blood & a lying tongue are attached to people. He says there's a time to hate. Abomination means extreme hatred. Sodomy is an abomination & there'll be no sodomites in heaven.

God's people are told to hate the same things that God hates. Yes, God does hate sinners & would call them to repentance.

While the sinner never worries about his sin(or he would not be a sinner), he CAN be brought under the love of God, but until this happens WRATH abides on him.

Jesus was not worried about offending people & sinners MUST be told that their sin offends God. Only then will they repent!

For God so loved the world, you, me and every other sinner, that He gave His Son's life to pay our penalty(thats a whole lot of love).
We love God becasue He loved us first(before were able to love Him becasue we were in our sin, unsaved, a sinner).
If God had never loved sinners we'd all be in trouble. We do not have to preform well to be loved by God, man, yes, God, no.

For jacob have I loved esau have i hated...

Grace is amazing not justice.... I am not in question of why God hated esau (he is sinner by nature and thus one by practice), my amazment is that He loves Jacob

To hate the sin but love the sinner that is only for the elect not the non-elect

Am 6:8 The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

Jacob is a type of the elect. Jacob's sins may seperate fellowship and blessings but it doesn't hinder the Father's love toward him.

The elect were chosen in Chirst and loved by God in Christ, nothing can separte us from the Love of GOd that in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So He loves us only in Christ. So where did the hatred for our sin go? on Christ during the substutionary atonment.

2cor 5:17 (for our nature he paid the debt)
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2pe 2:24 (for our particular sins)
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

If anything that might keep us restrained from sin, it should be the fact that Christ sufferec in our stead wha we are due...

Ro 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

---- How can God love a Sinner in Christ but the sin must be judged and dismissed. So died once the Just for the unjust.

I will say and many can argue, but God's love is not seperate from Christ. It can't be and I know that God can't look upon inquity. So How does He love us? Through Christ? Why do we love Him, becasue he first loved us, and he Loved us In His son before the foundation of the world. and this love is everlasting.

    just some thoughts

Where is the love of God in John 3:18? Is there love in condemnation? Condemnation is God's absolute rejection of the sinner. Unsaved men and women are condemned now. Can they be loved and rejected at the same time?

Where is love in John 3:36? Does love go together with wrath? Wrath is extreme anger mixed with contempt, disgust, and hate. The unsaved are under God's wrath now.

God loves His own(John 13:1). That leaves the UNSAVED out. For God so loved the world... God's love for the lost sinner extends only to the cross. If any man wants to receive the love of God, which is only in Jesus Christ our Lord(Rom 8:39), then he must repent of his sin. We are not entitled to God's love by mere virtue of our existence.

Neither. God sends the unsaved to Hell. The saved are sent to heaven, WITHOUT REGARD to their status of being sinners. We're all sinneres, btw, everyone one of us, saved or not. He who doesn't believe he's a sinner is lying to himself, which is a sin.

    Johnv,
My statement was in reference to the action or the one doing the acting. It is the criminal (person) who is to suffer eternal punishment not the crime.

We, those elect whom Christ died for, have been washed in the blood. Christ took on our sin, and we took on His righteousness. God sees us as if we were like His Son. Spotless.

If God hates workers of iniquity, but He loved the world so much that He sent His Son, then my question is: Can God hate someone and love them at the same time?

While we are on the topic, where does the Bible teach that God loves everyone, even believers, equally. Jesus said that if one keeps His commandments, then the Father will love Him. Isn't that a type of 'conditional love?'

One of the most beautiful titles or names for Our Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ is Friend of Sinners.

Matthew 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

"These six things doth the LORD hate...he that soweth discord among brethren." Doesn't say God hates the discord, says He hates the person who sows it. Seems pretty clear.

In the scriptures there are is a Love in sonship (unconditional) and love that is in fellowship that when that fellowship is hindered from our disobedience then we are chatistied..

So in the Case of John 14:21, I see it as a person who is "in the love of God" and can be honest within themsleves of how they are in heart before God. In looking at there own life, maybe we can see the times you were obedient you felt a closer walk in fellowship.

    Purple Lady.. who else specifically

The rich young ruler in mark 10:21

21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

There is love that is unconditional and is in Sonship and there is a love or hatred toward those things the one's he loves performs..

Examine Jacob in romans 9:11-13 adn Amos 6:8

In romans he(jacob and his types)is loved in election adn will be immortal glory. Amos 6:8 jacob (jacob and his types) had done horrible things but the Lord never said he stopped loving him but he hated his actions.

About the rich youn ruler. I belvie he is heavan becasue Christ Loved him (rom 8:32) and this is discipleship not sonship.

He asked what he maydo to inherit. WEll the answer is keeping the law in truth (in heart also) and this man thought he had done it from his youth (he was claiming his own righteousness) so to prove this point Christ told him to sell his possessions to prove to the one he loved, that he has broken the 1st Commandment.

Now selling riches is a work. But how many of us are unwilling to do the very same thing? I know that the Lord hates adn hte Lord loves. Grace is amazing not justice. Justice I understand, but love is of God.

I know many will disagree with me about this subject that is OK. I know the lord hated Esau and loved jacob. So all of the elect is loved and will be loved it is an everlasting love. This ruler never said that Christ was wrong or a liar as the unregenerated jews did in John 5,8, and 10. He went away greived not condemed to eternal wrath.

Following christ is by the sciprutres a hard thing. How dO I measure up? How do you? He that does well, let him cast the first stone. Before i start to judge a man's destiny by attributing laws of one's religion of prerequisites to become a child of God, I also stand as teh judge. the lawgiver and he judge is one.

i know there are people Christ said very plainy . ye cannot beleive becasue you are not of my sheep. He wasn't trying to get them to become disciples of Christ. The rich young ruler he did.

God's love is the deciding basis or factors of one's eternal home. And His love toward sinners is in Christ.

Love never fails and it is the bond of perfectness.

that is amazing love. To say that love of God or the merits of Christ are not deciding factors puts men in the judement seat individually or collectivly.

To say that the love of God and merits of Christ as the deciding factors. recognizes His postion as God of all and is merciful to unworthy sinners, when He was never obligated to save anyone.

    I hope this helps

From one of my favorite hymns:

The vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

God loves sinners. I know because he loved me so much that he saved me-a wretched sinner-from the 4 lane super highway to hell I was on.

I know God loves sinners by the change that took place in my heart when I took Jesus as my personal savior. My eyes get a bit misty sometimes when I think about it. I know God loves sinners because I remeber the day I was saved-years of darkness, despair, hatred, hopelesness and sadness replaced with a new life of hope. I know God loves sinners, because I know God loves me.

I guess most of you here have walked with Jesus all of your lives. I haven't. I see a clear devision of my unsaved life versus my saved life. That contrast alone is proof of God's love to me.

Conditional love for believers? If that is your view, I would hate to share your beliefs!

    God first loved us!
There are others; that's just a sampling.

Yes, we are supposed to keep Christ's commandments to show that we love Him, but His love for us is neverending!

Whether God loves them or not is not the issue so much as that the Bible tells us that God is merciful and offers forgiveness to all through Christ.

Also, Jesus told us to love our enemies. I think this includes the unsaved. So if we are to love them, how can God not love them? We are only able to love others, especially enemies, in the power of Christ!

    Brother Tim,

I am glad the person of the Lord Jesus Chrsit saved you from the eternal wrath of God. I only suggest this as a better way to deliver you testimony....

you said "when I took Jesus as my personal savior."

You beleive the message of the Person the lord jesus Christ. Eph 1:13-14

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

I think it would be better to day when you trusted Christ. for the following reasons.

v4 He chose you before the foundation of the Worls (he chose you)
v5 He has predestinated you to the adoption of Sons by His will
v6 He hath made us ACCEPTED in the beloved
v7 we have redemtption through the blood of Christ
we are all passive in those,

then we the Lord blesses us to spiritually hear the good news of "our" or your specific personal salvation that Christ wrought for you in your stead because He is your Savior.

He died for your sin (nature) 2co 5:17 and your sins in particular 1pe 2:24

    that is a personal savior.

YOu believed the message about the Person.

    He made you accpeted.

It just Glorifies God more if you start your testimony of salvation with the Christ or God and his actions toward you instead your actions toward you.

Joh 6:37-39 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

And there were ohters in John 10 that can't come.

I am not doubting your sincerty toward God. saying you "took" the Person of the Lord Jesus Chirst. Read Col 1:13-18

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

He needs preeminence and we should from the fruit of our lips be all praise glory and honor.

He took you [IMG] by grace.

I hope you take this in the Spirit I intended it.

    Brother Larry
