Job 23:10 - But he knoweth the way that I take...
Psalm 147:5 - Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
Proverbs 15:3 - The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
Acts 15:18 - Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
Hebrews 4:13 - Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
I John 3:20 - For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

Does God really know ALL things?

    Yes.

I do not understand that, it is best that when I do not understand, that I trust God.

    Yes

I will be interested in seeing the response of those that differ. I recently had this discussion with a man who had been a conservative fundamental pastor for 30 years. His reasoning was that since it behooved God to come as Jesus so He could experience what it was like to be a man. He needed that experience so that he could "know" what it was like.

    I didn't buy it.

Knowledge and experience are two different things.

God knows everything that is possible to know.

God has not experienced everything that is possible to experience. (God has not experienced sinning against Himself for instance.)

I agree. I wasn't saying they are the same I was saying that there is a kind of knowledge that is only gained by experience. I have no kids so I can't know what it is like to have kids. No matter how much I watch or how much I hear, I still can't know. This was the point that my pastor friend was making. I disagreed with him. God doesn't need to experience anything to know. I do, He doesn't.

    Your point is sound. :D

Yes, the baby Jesus learned as he grew up. What does that have to do with God knowing everything? Jesus did not come in the flesh so that he could learn by experience things he didn't already know before the incarnation. If that were true then He is still very much ignorant of a lot of things. He doesn't know what it is like to be a woman, Air Force pilot, rich, handicapped, etc.

God is the Creator of all things. Everything is according to His Will and His plan.

I am sorry I can't think of the scripture thats says....God knows our needs, but still wants us to ask. But I will try and find it.

    Yes God knows everything.

I just had this funny picture in my mind of God saying something like

"Oh my goodness (which truly He can say!), I didn't know that!"

    Sure. Right.

When you think of the idea of God NOT knowing something, it seems so bizarre that there is no question about the real answer! :D

I hope this doesn't start a firestorm, but what about this:

    Mark 13:
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory...

31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

    Hi Hank,

I think that is answered by Paul in Philippians 2:

    ...Christ Jesus
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God
    something to be grasped,
    but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
and became obedient to death --
    even death on a cross!

Jesus' limitations were self-imposed during the time of His incarnation and they were for our benefit.

I agree Helen, His limitations did not exist before the incarnation and don't exist now. He now knows the day and the hour. It is like closing your eyes, your aren't blind you just aren't seeing voluntarily but when you open your eyes again you can see. You didn't stop being a sighted person you just chose not to see for a while.

    Helen and Art...

    I agree.

    Three agreements in a row.

That must be a BB record.

Hi all, A thought crossed my mind as I sat here looking on,eternity and what it must be like.Imagine what it must have been like for Jesus when He stepped into time.No past, present or future only the eternal now one second and the opposite the next.
From eternity past did Jesus here my cry? I believe when He hung on the cross He was bearing my personal sin.Salvation is a personal thing is it not?
For sure He's all knowing ER

But consider this, ER . . using the language to refer to Jesus having a past moment when He wasn't incarnated, then a time when He was incarneated and experiencing time, and then another time when He was not experiencing time any more - is inconsistent use of the notion of experiencing time!

We can hardly bring ourselves to talk about these things in a truly consistent manner. Which is one of the reasons we argue over things like predestination and free will.

Hey Paul of Eugene,I see by your membership number you've been arround for a while and I'm new to the board.I've been mostly just doing some heavy looking on adding my two cents once and awhile here and there.
In the area where I live calvinists are almost as scarce as hens teeth. One began attending our church years ago, some strife among the brethern suddenly popped up.I surely don't want to open up that can.Eternity and the foreknowledge of God (Father,Son and Holy Spirit) will surely seem simple when observed from heaven I expect.
However as a believer locked in time living lifes struggles moment by moment i'm thankfull that I have an all knowing savior who was there,is there and will be there when I need Him,Amen. As for predestination and free-will neither would be much without the Holy Spirit.
PS will be praying for your troops as they battle on in Iraq!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a bit ashamed of my Governments recent policy and emailed our PM today and told him so. ER
