Does your church have an altar?

What's the purpose of an altar in a Christian sanctuary? We don't offer up sacrifices on it.

Far as I'm concerned, it's a symbol of the Old Covenant or some pagan religions & has no use nor place in a Christian sanctuary, regardless of its denomination.

What do we mean by "alter?" We have a table for communion that is below the podium(stage). This is where the pastor and deacons stand for communion.
After the sermon a deacon will stand in this location to pray with church attenders if the desire to pray.
Would this be considered an alter?

I can see having a symbolic alter to represent and remember that Jesus is the High Priest and the sacrificial Lamb of God given as a ransom for all who believe. I can see having the offering of bread (Jesus is the bread of life) and drink offering (Jesus is the water of life that quenches all thirst) in remembrance of our King's work on our behalf.
On our church table (alter) it says "In Remembrance of Me."

Why would this be a problem?

Why do you call it a sanctuary - as that is ONLY for the Old Testament?
