I know this has probably been talked about before, but.......

Who still goes door to door in evangelism?

If so, is it effective in your opinion?

How active is your church in doing it?

What other methods of evangelism is your church doing? Are these ministries being used effectively?

    In Christ,

Our church has visitation ministry every Thursday night. One of the things we do is go door to door, as well as passing out tracts, etc. I am new to this church so I don't know great detail about the effectiveness, but it was announced in the service a couple weeks ago that 3 souls were saved in door to door visitations that week. Also, several members have joined the church as a result of this ministry.

We also have a bus ministry to bring folks in that don't have transportation. We have several inner city familes as well as children whose parents allow them to attend even if the parents don't come, who are picked up and brought to services.

One soul at a time...whatever it takes. It's all worth it to add to the family of God.

    In Christian love.

We've done it here and it simply does not work here. On dooor to door visits no one wants to go to church, and there hasn't been a salvation in years that way here. And it isn't just our chruch either. In our area we get a lot of door to door JW's, which in my opinion has turned people off to door to dooor visits from anyone else. But our town is so small that with all the people in our church, all totaled we know probably 80 or 90% of the people in our town. We gain mor ethis way by knowing people and inviting them.
People change, and they are just not as likely to listen too or even want to talk with someone at their door as they used to be long ago. Back then people listened just to be hospitiable and not rude, now they don't care if they are rude. I've been yelled at and told to never come back.

Amen RTG...in other words, it is our responsibility to spread the gospel message, or the blood of those that we decided not to witness to is on our hands if we had the opportunity and didn't take it. We're gonna have to answer one day for our service.

We share the message, then it is up to the individual to accept the conviction of the Holy Spirit and believe.

I'm sure everyone here can agree with me on this one....one day I'd like to hear those welcoming words from my Saviour, "well done, thou good and faithful servant."

    Amen.

"One soul at a time...whatever it takes. It's all worth it to add to the family of God."

And it`s down to us, to show His love in all we do and say . We ARE the witness, door to door, in work at leisure, always.
It`s our job, and when you think of it , it`s not much for Him to ask of us.
    Luke chapter 10 verses 10 , 11 and 16. Gwyneth

Every Wednesday we go door to door and hand out fliers about upcoming thing at our church. We also made cookie jars with advertisement cd's at Christmas that we handed out to people in the neighborhood around the church. Since we started going door to door weekly our numbers have risen quite a bit! I think it's a success as long as you aren't pushy.

Yep, it has been talked about before; however, I personally always find it one of the most interesting thread, especially when new people provide comments.

Our church goes door-to-door, and we have had very good results, although it is the state of Maryland. I support most methods of getting the gospel out, especially when that labor is resulting in obvious fruit. Those that are continually witnessing or sharing their faith, wherever the Holy Spirit leads, have my greatest admiration.

Door to door has always been neutral to me. If someone feels led to go door to door that's great. People do get tired of people coming to their door about anything. One thing to think about is that people fall prey to Mormonism and JW's that way. In that, they can accept the truth as well. To some people it is a total turn off, but people are going to get offended sometimes no matter how we evangelize.

Besides door to door what other effective ministries does your church have? Any ideas?

    In Christ,

Door to door worked (fairly well) in the 50-60's. It is now one of the least functional method of fulfilling the Great Commission in a town where once it flourished! People come home and do NOT want uninvited guests talking church.

Many label any d-t-d effort as Jehovah Witness or (around here) Mormon. We don't cold-call, but call ahead and make time that is convenient. We use other mass-evangelism programs that are based on friendship and one-on-one sharing the Gospel.

There are many ways today that seem here to be better. But if a church (or individual) wants to go d-t-d, GOD BLESS YOU. It may work well in your area or with the demographic of your region. Don't let anyone discourage you.

We don't do true door to doors because of the area. Most homes are on acres instead of lots. We will, however, do weekend blitzes in the new subdivisions where you just knock and hand out those plastic bags (used to be for car litter) filled with info on our church, ministries, salvation brochures, magnets, pencils or pens, etc. If someone begins a conversation with us, then we'll continue and witness but ONLY if they open the conversation.

Our visitation is aimed at visitors or names given to us saying this person wants a minister to call or needs ......

    It's working here! 1,200 as of 2 Sunday's ago.

We still go door to door it is not the most effective way for evangelism. But it is the best way to make sure everyone hears the message of savation at lest once.

To some extent it depends on your area. Some places it seems to work well.

I didn't think it worked all that well down south with unknown people since a large number of unsaved people will tell you they are Baptists and even tell you which church they belong to.

I think everyone so far on this thread has made very good comments. Each one has said certain things which are TRUE today.
Not every town is too keen on d-t-d, and the reason given is usually the LDS or JW's. That is fine. I might point out, however, that those two groups continue in spite of the opposition they face. This should shame us at least. If they are willing to endure "persecution" for their false god, then how well does that speak of our willingness to endure for our Saviour? Is our motivation to be focused on results or should it be focused on our obedience to the command to go into ALL the world? The person (RTG) who pointed out the command to warn them in Ezekiel makes a very relevant point.
I think we ought to warn them. Remember Jesus said to remember that they who reject us, rejected HIM first. Is it such a terrible thing if they slam the door in our face? At least they have been confronted with the truth. The rest is up to God. Their response to our efforts will add to their condemnation in that DAY, won't it?
All the arguments against doing it, should fall flat at this point. At least that is my understanding. Our only call is to GO! The rest is up to God.
Am I saying that d-t-d is the ONLY way to do this? Nope. But it IS a very effective way to at least warn everyone in a given neighborhood/town/community. Any harvest as a result of that is cause to rejoice. But the harvest should not be our motivation. Obedience should be.
My home church is very active in this form of witnessing. We don't see very many come to church or get saved as the result, but we do not focus on results. We focus on just doing it. And we often rejoice! when rejected. We look at it like this. "They are not rejecting us, they are rejecting Jesus, therefore, what He said has come true in our lives. And THAT FACT, is cause to rejoice. Though it is sad that they are rejecting salvation, even still, Jesus is true to His word."
One must also consider that we will never know if that one who did respond and get saved, come to church, get baptized, and stays faithful; might NEVER have been saved were it not for the d-t-d ministry. And THAT is reason enough isn't it?
    In HIS service;
    Jim

I like Revelation 3:20,If we could just picture Christ in us when we Knock on a door, make that Phone call, talk to our coworkers or neighbors, unsaved family ect.Not thinking of the results, just obedience,God being glorifyed. The Lord came Knocking on my fathers door around 15 years ago in the body of a willing man with a bus minestry.Through that mans obedience many souls have been saved and the fruit just keeps coming.I gives thanks to the Lord for brother Dave.Im not saying everyone should go door to door, that is something between each of us and the Lord.I would not be suprised if many of if not all of us could trace our salvation back to a yeilded man or woman that Knocked on someones door.I want to be a better witness, and be better at enchouraging others to be.I also want to be a better speller.Have mercey on me!

I still go DTD with members of my former church. My present church is a small rural one, with no DTD, but there's no prob with my working with my former one. After all, it's all in JESUS'name.

We try to make it on Tuesday afternoon, when there's not much on TV and people have a little more time to talk. I always go with a woman, usually my wife, as we've found people trust a man and a woman together than a lone person, and if we can bring a child, they trust us even more.

I started another thread somewhere about this. I do participate in our church's visitation program every Monday but am really beginning to feel uneasy about it. First, I don't find it helps that much in bringing people in. Secondly, since we visit the same people until they "commit" to another church or tell us not to come back, I almost feel as though I am harrassing them. Thirdly, and mostly, I have realized if someone unexpectedly knocked on MY door at 7:30 or 8 at night, I wouldn't even answer it. After being up since 4:45 a.m., working all day and doing the usual nightly routine on the nights I am home, I don't want ANYONE "dropping" in on me so why should I feel comfortable doing it to others.

It has been reported that people form an opinion within 12 seconds of walking into a building. What they continue to see usually follows their opinion.
