Of course we are always to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ even when they must suffer the consequences of their sin.

The Hovinds chose to ignore the Bible truths in places like Romans 13. I would ask GOd to protect them while they reap what they have sown and teach them to fully obey the word of God.

 

Amen to that. Hovind chose to lie and break the law. He is now suffering the consequences. And he seems completely unrepentant.

God can help him when he wants help. Until then he's on his own.

 

Because they tried that, and it didn't work. This didn't happen yesterday.

He was caught hiding assets. He's quite wealthy.

I hate to see anyone in jail, but crimes do have consequences.

BTW, you might want to check where "Dr." Hovind got his doctorate...

 

This is the first I heard of this, guess I have been out of the loop. I am very sorry to hear it too!

I was saved when I was 15, and then in college I began to question my faith quite a bit, mostly because it didn't add up to what a lot of college professors were saying...why we believe them so much without questioning I will never know...anyway, I got out of church for a long time. Took getting hit over the head with a 2x4 (severe marital problems) to get me back in church and the same questions came up, I then got a hold of some tapes from Kent Hovind and they answered all my questions. They moved me so much I started teaching about creationism vs. evolution in my church!

I will definitely pray for him.

 

I don't think that God's method of creating living things was responsible for your troubles.

Even if He hadn't used evolution, we'd still be the same people with the same problems.

 

What is the lie that you believe he chose to engage in?

 

He and his wife being found guilty of smurfing/structuring is a thought crime. The law says that you have to tell papa gov't when you desire to withdraw your own money in increments exceeding $10,000. If you withdraw $1 10,000 times then the gov't will accuse you of trying to avoid their reporting requirements and you go to jail? If we are a free country we should be able to withdraw our own money in whatever increments we desire and have the liberty to tell or not tell anyone we want about it.

True. However, according to the letter of the law they are innocent. According to the antichrist executors of the law, they are guilty.

Notwithstanding the debtor's listing under penalty of perjury in his schedules and statement of affairs that he has no income, has no expenses, and owns no property, the evidence shows otherwise. Records from the State of Florida, Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles ("DHSMV") reflect three motor vehicles, a 1987 Mercury, 1989 GMC, and 1984 Honda titled in the debtor's name. Real property records from Escambia County, Florida reflect that the debtor and his wife purchased a home on December 16, 1993 from Ernest and Voncile Hicks and gave the Hicks, a mortgage in the amount of $60,000 encumbering the home. The testimony of Mrs. Hicks together with a closing statement from the sale, reflects a purchase price of $90,000 for the house with the debtor paying $30,369.43 down. Mrs. Hicks' testimony further established that the debtor makes regular payments on the mortgage and has in fact paid in advance on the mortgage. Typically, payments are made with third party checks made payable to the debtor and endorsed over to Mrs. Hicks. In February, 1995, the debtor paid $3,265.00 for the installation of central heating and air conditioning in the house. Additionally, the debtor has three children all of whom attend a private Christian school for which he and his wife pay approximately $4,800.00 per year in tuition and fees.
An inventory of the debtor's van following seizure by the IRS revealed video and audio tapes and printed literature on creationism published by the debtor. Included in the literature is an order form containing prices designated as "suggested donations:" The "suggested donation" for the video tapes ranged from $9.95 each to $14.95 each with the "donation" for a set of all eighteen (18) of the debtor's videos of $180.00.

Please explain their innocence according to the "letter of the law."

How do we determine guilt and innocence is our nation? Through courts and juries, or must everyone check with you to determine guilt and innocence.

This saying "we don't own anything" but paying a mortgage for example is a clear example of thier lying and subterfuge.

Another interesting example about how they tried to skirt the law from the link above:

Not a US citizen but a citizen of the Florida Republic? Does he really think he chose which governments to recognise and not recognise?

I trust that he is my brother in Christ, and there can be no denying the good his teaching has done. but he knowingly broke they law and tried to use God to excuse it.

 

People like Hovind seem to want to preach God but they don't trust Him to take care of them. They seem to feel they can take care of themselves better, whether or not they are disobeying the law.

To me, as a Christian, this is the greatest -- and certainly un-prosecutable -- crime. It is giving a horrid witness of Christ to the world.

 

Some thoughts...

Here is what Hovind said to the court before his sentencing:

I find that disturbing..."let other folks--my supporters--pay my taxes."

Hovind:

• Has disregarded Christ's command to "render unto Caesar." (direct disobedience to scriptural command)
• Hovind has stated, "I don't know why I'm being charged." (Lie)
• Hovind claims that he is employed by God, receives no income, has no expenses and owns no property. (Lie) He still offers $250K to anyone who can prove evolution. If he has nothing, where does the $250K come from?
• Hovind failed to pay $473,818 in federal income, Social Security and Medicare taxes on employees. (Defrauding others)
• Kent Hovind paid his employees in cash and labeled them "missionaries" to avoid payroll tax and FICA requirements. (Defrauding others; disobeyed scriptural command)
• Hovind failed to obtain a building permit during the 2002 theme park construction.
• Hovind has been charged with: Filing a frivolous lawsuit against the IRS, Filing a (false) injunction against an IRS special agent, Filing false complaints against the IRS for false arrest, excessive use of force and theft, and making threats against investigators and those cooperating with the investigation. (those are allegations, not convictions, in the sake of intellectual honesty...but none of these charges have been dismissed out of hand)
• Hovind and his wife made scores of cash deposits to make the money untraceable. (bearing false witness; let "yes" be "yes")
• Kent Hovind required his employees to sign nondisclosure agreements if they wanted to keep their jobs. (forced the complicity of others with his felony)
• Hovind claims that his employer is God--to circumvent taxes. (Lie)
• None of Hovind's businesses have a license. (see above)
• Hovind claims he was "never notified" by the IRS...despite the numerous documented letters sent to him (reportedly unopened) by IRS officials. (Lie)

Now...full disclosure: It disturbs me that this guy gets so much time, when violent criminals get less. However: This does not excuse Hovind to break the law.

I can't stand our tax system. But I pay my taxes. And furthermore, the way in which Hovind approached this issue sounded less like conscientous objection and more like embezzlement. I still hold out hope that it's the former...even though I don't think he's right, I still hope his motives weren't about personal gain.

That being said, I pray that he'll grow in his faith during this time.

 

Were this the case there would be greater justice then the injustice laid out at the hands of two Judas's, one US Attorney and a corrupt judge.

The definitions of U.S. Citizen in the tax code is not the same as what you and I would expect the definition to be. While it may sound crazy, it is a valid argument. This Republic was never intended to have federalized citizens but rather citizens of states with state representation.
