How does one "approve" the USA?

 

I went with "other". I see Dr. King as a man devoted to a great cause, but not a great man.

 

His death was the worst thing that could've happened to the AA community. It allowed the charlatans to move in and make merchandise of that community, and look where it is today. It's truly sad. All they did was exchange one set of chains for another.

The killing of Malcolm X was probably worse. Why? Because he taught that black people could pull themselves up without the help of white people, a lesson that that black Americans have never learned. For example, in Seattle there is (was?) a "Buy Black" week to encourage black people to support black owned businesses. Our Chinese and Japanese community doesn't need a "Buy Chinese (Japanese)" week because for them, it is instinctive, a part of their social contract with their Chinese (Japanese) community.

 

I disagree.

Malcolm X's message quickly became more about separatism than self-reliance ("black power" and the like--We're still seeing the cancerous effects of that); whereas King's message was about equality (did I agree with all his policies? Of course not...but the principles undergirding the "dream" speech were spot on).

 

Kinda thought you meant "improve" in the first place!

Well then, SOMEBODY changed the wording of the first option because when I read it, it read that MLK was trying to "approve" the USA and now it reads that he was trying to "improve" the USA.

Whatever the case may be, that wasn't the option I chose anyway.
