    Hey Gang:

What think ye of a preacher who was told by his doctor to have "a little wine" for his heart's sake daily?

Is he a "good Christian," or has he departed the faith if he imbibes?

    Think about it?

    sdg!

There's been a fair amount of evidence to suggest that a glass of red wine every few days lowers the risk of heart disease.

    It was Timothy's stomach. ;)

Do doctors still say this? I thought we had good medicines for permanent stomach problems.

Personally, I don't have any problems with a genuine usage of alcohol as a medicine. My wife brought over a stock of Nyquil for when I catch a winter cold--which might be soon. Brr, it's cold up here in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, and that snow I see outside my window may be the "neyuki" (foundation snow). We'll have 6 feet in the yard before the winter is over.

Since the people in Jesus' time drank wine, wouldn't it be safe to say it would be ok to drink a drink from time to time?

If I remember correctly, the Bible doesn't say to not drink, it says somewhere to not be a drunkard. Right?

Drinking is for the wicked. It is the Devil's tool. Take aspirin for your heart.

actually jamie the wine in the Bible usually refers to freshly squeezed grapes like the butler who squeezed the grapes into the pharoahs cup on the pharoahs bday(it was called wine)

the Bible also says in the last book of proverbs that it is not for kings to drink wine or strong drink and in revalation it says that we will all be kings and priests so we shouldnt drink it

the bible says that who drinks wine or strong drink is not wise

Okay, it's not wise to drink freshly squeezed grapes.

Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to him whose life is bitter. Let him drink and forget his poverty And remember his trouble no more. [Proverbs 31:6-7]

There is nothing wrong with drinking wine. After all Jesus turned the water to wine.

The bible tells us not to be drunk. Being drunk is a sin but drinking wine is not sin.

I drink wine with my meals. I do not get drunk.

This is pure eisegesis. Paul says to "be not drunk with wine" not freshly squeezed grape juice.

If it is not for kings to drink wine, what do you do with the "King of Kings" in Luke 7:33-35?

Where in Scripture does it say "who drinks wine or strong drink is not wise"? I believe you took a culmination of a few Scriptures and blurred them together.

What happens to "freshly squeezed grape juice" if you age it? What does the Bible tell us which wine is the best...the "new" or the "well aged"? Which wine will the Lord of Hosts serve us in Isaiah 25:6? If the "best" wine is the well aged wine...what wine did Jesus make as His first miracle? What were the Israelites to do with wine in Deuteronomy 14:26?

Just some questions for you and others to study and answer who have always taken the denominational stance that drinking is sin. See what the Bible says about it...not what man or your denomination says.

Sex is for the wicked also. Nevermind that God created such, satan is going to misuse it.

Food is also for the wicked. Nevermind that God gave us food, satan is going to misuse it.

    Etc., etc., ad infinitum!

Pick ANYTHING you desire, and you will find that satan has a method of bastardizing it, as well as all that God ordained!

Don't let satan determine your choices; let God's word have that job!

Putting words in God's mouth is evil.

Just because you don't like it does not make it sin.

Where does God say drinking is evil? He says over drinking is evil. You know kinda like the forgotten sin of gluttony.

    Colossians 2:16-23 (NASB)

16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—
17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.
20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,
21 "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!"
22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?
23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

Do you "give strong drink to him who is perishing," and "wine to him whose life is bitter," or do you disobey God's Word?

Scripture does not support your view. Jesus drank wine with every sabbath, and even made wine for a wedding feast.

    Scripture clearly dislikes drunkenness.

Failing to discern between wine consumption and drunkenness, you have succeeded in twisting and adding to scripture.
