Driver did not pull over immediately

I noticed that the article included the word "pregnant"
Why - what did that have to do with the story - other than
to make you feel sorry for the victim

Driver did the right thing. Yes, I know the law says you're to pull over immediately in most states, but codifying stupidity into the law without consideration of circumstances doesn't make it right.

Nowadays you never know if it's some dingdong impersonating a cop. Even if it is a cop, pulling over on the side of the highway with my kids in the car at night is a no-no because that's the death zone pregnant or not.

I don't know if the driver did this, but she should have called dispatch and relayed that she is pulling over at a lit area. If she did not do this that's a mistake on her part and she needs to be taught this.

Additionally the officer acted with disproportionate force. The gun drawn once the vehicle stopped was appropriate. However, once the "threat" was identified as a pregnant woman, with kids in the car, and she was cooperating with the officer's commands and once she gave her explanation, he should have immediately deescalated instead of going down the "shut up" route.

The officer was unprofessional. He doesn't deserve to be fired, but does need a stern talking to regarding de-escalation practices and threat assessment. It's also clear that the video in the article was edited to try and make the cop looks worse than he was.

The driver seemed to act courteously once she stopped and did not deserve getting yelled at for doing what is best for her children and her. The officer was justified in handing her a ticket for speeding.

The only thing I can think of is that recently he may have tried to pull someone over in similar situation - which may not have ended as well.

Granted this is just a guessmation - and by no means do I excuse the actions of the officer.

If I remember correctly, when I saw this on the news - the TV reporter attempted to contact the officer - but he has not yet responded.
