Tony Dungy: I'll tell you what. I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American to win this. It means an awful lot to our country. But again, more than anything, I've said it before, Lovie Smith and I, not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more proud of that.

I want to contrast the above with a profound denunciation of the advertising presented during the game. despicable.

I cant for the life of me understand how churches can comfortably show this mess on the big screen in "God's house." The scantily clad cheerleaders, the commercials with all the sexual innuendo. It nothing but bread and circus.

We had a couple of men's groups show the game. They TiVo'd it, as we had a church event earlier. They skipped through the halftime & commercials.

How did the TIVO eliminate the cheerleaders?

We provided each man with a paper blouse/culottes cutout. We rotated, by quarters, who had "nekkid duty." When a cheerleader showed up on the screen, he held the dress over her.

Well, at least you made an effort.

I was being tongue in cheek.

I was not at the event. I was visiting a person who had a family emergency.

    She had clothes on, too.

    So was I.

Praise God for keeping you from temptation.

I pray the emergency was recovered from and all is well.

My daughter had been assigned to watch the game by her teacher who wanted her to record and analyze the advertising.

She apparently made a face, because the teacher asked "don't you like football?"

"Real football is played with a round ball." she said.

It is a peculiar thing to call the sport football when a foot touches the ball maybe a dozen to two dozen times in a game. I like what some English call the sport..."stop-start rugby with padding".

It is called "foot ball" because origianlly they used an old leather boot wrapped with twine for the ball.

Hence the current shape and stitching. Yet the material, (leather) is still the same for the most part.

Although the rules have degenerated somewhat.....

I find it funny that everyone talks about the cheerleaders, but no one talked about Prince's little "Phallic Silhouette" display.

Oh my gosh!! Someone else thought the same thing!!! I SOOO thought that but didn't say anything to DH!!!

Ya know, I thought of something for a more 'wholesome' Super Bowl time - atleast for churches and Christian homes. Everyone who comes has to come up with a commercial for a certain product. Of course, there's a choice of a number of products, but I thought it would be fun to get people involved AND get around those commercials. Have someone watch for the end of the commercials to get back to the game.

BTW - I didn't see too many cheerleaders yesterday - I'm sure that rain was way too much for their hair!

ETA - I thought what both men had to say was absolutely awesome - and what the commentators said at one point about Dungy and how he never yells or swears - what an awesome testimony!!! People DO look at your life as part of your testimony!

You'd have to have watched the game to know that Princess did that. The cheerleaders are assumed, half-time antics are not and if what you describe is true, it is one more reason why Christians should not take part in this wickedness.

I did indeed watch the game. Truly I didn't notice any cheerleaders, scantily clad or otherwise. But Prince was up to his antics.

I know I'm going to catch a lot of heat, but I thought Prince was outstanding.
