I haave a Samsung DVD Recorder on my tower PC. Lately, it will not recognize my recorded dvd's that have been recorded on my pc. It will read store bought DVD's like my 'I Love Lucy' collection, but will not recognize cd's I have burnt.

It recognizes them as a single audio track instead of the many files that are on it that are not audio at all.

Any suggestions?

Are you saying it won't read dvd's the same drive created or are you talking about two different drives.

It is not terribly uncommon to have dvd's made on one drive not work on another. I have read of such problems and have experienced it as well. My son makes dvd's and we have a terrible time finding a drive that will deal with them. We have a home entertainment one, three computers with dvds and between the four we can usually play them, but never the same one usually.

If you are talking about the same drive, the drive might be dirty. Open the drawer and blow into the inside hard, or use some canned air and blow around. This will get any dust off that has settled on the laser lense.

Very strange that it would read one file and not others. Can you see the other files in windows explorer? (If made on a different drive does it work?)

Can you try the seemingly bad dvd's in someone else's drive? Take them to public library and try them on their computers (most libraries have computers available to the public.)

And I would suggest using Samsung's website.

But, you might be able to fix it with a good compressed air cleaning and using a cleaning disk and solution.

I would use compressed air FIRST. The loose stuff won't become solid. Then the solvent (usually denatured alcohol) will work on the stuck stuff.

Bro. Bob what I was mentioning was general of all drives so your samsung should be fine. One of mine is a samsung and works great. It is just a slight incompatibility among drives that some have noticed. For the most part my laptop drive does most anything but among our other three it is hit and miss.

The drive was recognizing the cd for several weeks(it was a backup cd of files and programs on my pc.

The other morning I was looking for a program that I knew was on that particular cd (I have the cd labeled). I inserted the cd, and windows explorer opened as usual, and it showed a single audio file.

I tried refreshing the drive and still only the one file shows. My wife's has recently started doing the same thing.

It is doing this with any burned cd we try to read.

I gotta ask have you run an anti-virus scan?

Anti Virus scan sounds very good. Also I'd try them on another computer. If not readable there, I'd suspect bad cds though have never heard of such a thing.

Antivirus runs daily. No suspected threats.

Have just discovered something interesting...

Wife and I used a store bought cd in drive and Window opened fine. Then we put the burned cd in question in and the drive is once again reading the cd correctly.

I think it may be a driver glitch, but not sure of solution.

Will go to the Microsoft site and the Samsung site. The flowchart site looked too cornfuzzling.

BTW, my wife and I both have the 'TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D' DVD Writer. It will be interesting to see if Bob's is the same model and if it gives him this problem down the road.

The next time it gives trouble go to start/settings/control panel/system/hardware tab and click on device manager and see if there is a yellow or red icon beside your dvd drive, highlight the dvd and right click for properties for info that might give you a hint.

That was one of the first things I checked when it was reading all files into one audio track. No yellow flags.

BTW, there is a faster way to get to that Hardware tab.

Right click My Computer and choose Properties. Then click Hardware Tab.

thanx trotter.

have been there and clicked on the firmware update zip 02. it brings up a window chosen to open a zip file, yet the ok button is greyed out. I cannot open, nor save the zip file. on any of the five files offered.

WHAT? You tryin ta get me outa my rut :laugh: Been doin it my way for years. Actually have been picking up little shortcuts like that lately and like em. Thanks.

Just discovered windows key + E for windows explorer been using that one lots lately.
