Featured Easter Eggs and Bunnies

The only thing planned is church breakfast potluck.

I might try using a Resurrection Eggs kit, or something similar, in the future to include the kids in our celebration and show we can have fun and still keep Christ front and center.

I would have no problem with small children participating in an Easter egg hunt along with the Easter message. It would bother me if the deacons wanted to help find the eggs.

I would discourage it, and my kids will not be involved in any such thing....Mainly it is an issue to me of the nature of that particular pagan symbolism. Granted.....I don't have a problem with Christians stealing some symbols or rituals from pagans and using them for our own diabolical purposes, but the unique symbolisms of the bunny and the eggs et. al. are too much to stomach for me, let alone the fact that there is no sybolism in it which we can reasonably construe (even if we are reaching) to relate it to the resurrection that I can think of.

 

It's candy and kids like it. Let them have it.

I cannot understand why Christians participate in the association of the most important event in human history (the resurrection of our Lord Jesus)with a magical rabbit that poops chocolate eggs.

Yep, kids like candy. We give it to them. It's not a big deal.

 

Was Jesus formed from an egg before being born? Yes or No.

Was Jesus formed from an egg before being resurrected? Yes or No.

Are there any biblical similarities between being born from the womb and the resurrections from the dead? Expound please.

 

I saw chocolate crosses at Walmart last night. Thought it was interesting.

 

Christianity is all about REDEMPTION.

• We take bar tunes and turn them into hymns. We redeem the tune.
  
• We take addictions and turn them into care classes that address the addiction while sharing the gospel. We redeem the sin.
  
• We take Halloween festivities as an opportunity to have a harvest fest at our church to reach people with the gospel in our community. We redeem the day.
  
• We take Christmas traditions and explain their Christian origins and the REAL meaning behind gift giving, etc. We redeem the day.
  
• We take Easter eggs, candy and bunnies and use them in stories to point children to the cross and His resurrection. We redeem the day.

Unfortunately, some people know Christians more by what they are against than what they are for because they are too busy fighting with the lost. They see their neighbor with a Darwin bumper sticker so they buy a bigger bumper sticker with a Jesus Fish eating a Darwin Fish. Do we really think that is going to help them see the light? I say we stop fighting the world and start loving them. Let's be less about boycotts and more about creating a place to belong.

Let's be less about retaliation and more about redemption.

 

And we take eggs and make eggheads.

Elmer Fudd had the wight idea--skip the eggs and go hunting stwaight for the wabbits.

 

Our church will have an Easter Egg hunt.

We will explain to the kiddoes how the eggs and chocolate bunnies have come to represent spring and the resultant new life coming up out of the ground in our culture.

Then we will tell them again how God really does give new life, and to the saved, resurrection.

Can't keep them from the eggs and chocolate customs but we can turn them into a teachable moment.

 

No egg hunt. We are having an Easter breakfast at which the children will have a special devotion time and will receive gift bags with items appropriate to their age....the teenagers get t-shirts and Bible study materials like journals, pens, highlighter. The Preschoolers will receive DVDs like Veggie tales, coloring books and other items.

We believe in celebrating the joyous resurrection just not in propogating the Easter Bunny myth any more than the Santa myth at Christmas.

 

We are having an easter beer hunt w/ Lagers, pilsners, Guinness, bach beer etc....of course its only for kids over 21 & up.:thumbs: Great tradition.... God is good:smilewinkgrin:
