To assure salvation you need to go forward one time in your
life and shake the preacher's hand and you are saved.

Do you agree with the preceeding definition of
    easy believisn?

Note that this is NOT the same as the following
verse which neither mentions "go forward"
    nor "shake the prescher's hand".

    Romans 10:9 (KJV1611 Edition):
That if thou shalt confesse with thy mouth
the Lord Iesus, and shalt beleeue in thine heart, that God hath raised him from
the dead, thou shalt be saued.

    The correct vote is "NO".

Easy believism is not the same as
OSAS = Once Saved, Always Saved.

I do believe that if a person is truly touched during a service and goes forward at an invitation, they can be saved at that moment after the gospel is shared. I believe if flippantly done as a notch in the belt there isn't much power. But through fervent prayer and true repentance people can be saved during an invitation

Many people claim they are saved, not true saved, because of their mind, not heart.

    In Christ
    Rev. 22:20 -Amen!

We as baptists make it so hard to be saved. We say that we don't judge a persons salvation then completely ignore the simplicity of the cross. Everybody is a fruit inspector. Was it of the heart or mind? Was it easy believisim?

Friend, Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and THOU SHALT BE SAVED! It is as simple as that!

Here is how to get saved in a modern
    (2003) edition:
Romans 10:9 (HCSB = Holman Christian Standard Bible):

if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is
Lord," and believe in your heart that God
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Of course, if you "walk the aisle" and
"shake the hand of a preacher" in addition
to doing what the Bible prescribes, that
won't delete your salvation NOR DOES IT PROVIDE
    YOUR SALVATION.

I was saved in 1952 when I first confessed
that Jesus was Lord of my Life while believing
that God had raised Him from the dead.
I did "walk the aisle" but i had already
been eternally saved by Jesus before i
walked that aisle. I did "shake the hand
of a preacher' (or was it a lay councellor?)
but it was after i was saved by Jesus.
I did get baptized into a Southern Baptist
Church, but it was AFTER i was saved by
Jesus. The baptism was a noticalbe admittance
of the Lordship of Jesus in my Life, but it
was AFTER i got saved by Jesus.

Here it is 53 years later, the last Sunday
of April. Yep, last Sunday of April 1952 when
i got saved once and forever. So Praise
Jesus, it is my 53rd anniverservy of my
salvation today. Itsn't it interesting how
    long "eternal life" lasts [IMG]

I am sure that on occasion someone surprises our preacher by walking down without prior discussion, but in our church one has normally already made his profession of faith (as stated in Romans 10:9&10) before walking down the aisle for the public profession, shaking the preachers hand, and get voted into church membership. Bruce
PS Congratulations Ed on your 53RD anniversary.

    Oops, i did forgive
all but one. I didn't know he had offended
me so i forgot to forgive him. I guess i'll
go to hell for it, the offense i didn't know
about? No, i'll study the scripture more
and find out Jesus was trying to teach me
to forgive my brother FOR I WAS FORGIVEN.
BTW, just like Jesus, i should forgive the
sin forever, never bringing it up again --
    never, never, ever.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

So which is it? Believe and confess? Or believe and be baptized?

The repentant thief on the cross couldn't be baptized, but Jesus saved him anyhow. He was concerned with the HEART and not the water, same as He is for us.

You have posed a false dichotomy. It isn't an exclusive or
proposition - you don't have to have one or the
other. I know before i confessed Jesus as my
Lord i had some repenting to do, so repenting
is part of the process. BTW, letting
yourself be baptized is a good way to confess
Jesus as one's Lord, for baptism is a sign
of identification with the death, burial,
    and resurreciton of Messiah Jesus.

It says confess with your mouth, Ed. Is confessing with your mouth a condition for salvation? Is baptism a condition for salvation? I didn't even mention repent, so now we have a trinity of works for salvation. Repent, confess and be baptized, and you will be saved. Oh yeah, believe too. Why did Jesus say this then?

John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

He forgot to mention the holy works trinity of Repent, Confess and Be Baptized.

YES - I agree the preceeding definition (statement?) is easy believism, or at least is one manifestation of it.

NO - I don't agree that going forward or shaking the preacher's hand saves a person. However, I believe I have witnessed people who have been saved, then go forward and shake the preacher's hand. I personally did that when I was 12. I was saved in the woods near my house on a weekday. I had to wait until Sunday to go forward and shake the preacher's hand. [IMG]

Thus, I voted YES in the pole. I didn't understand the question - maybe?

    Thank you Ed.
Easy believeism is not the same as security of the believer(OSAS).

What is it about believe that is so hard to understand. Who says shaking hands has something to do with believing? This would be more akin to the view of salvation that says if you 'really' believe x and y will occur. If you really believed, you will walk down the aisle and shake the pastors hand. That is what you think of when someone says believe?

So what is easy beleivism? Is the Roman Road a trip to easy beleivism? What exactly is 1-2-3 pray after me? I hear that a lot but haven't seen it that I know of.I've never heard anybody witness using the Roman Road without including some explanation of repentance ,what it is,& the need for it.
My understanding of the going down the isle and shaking the preachers hand is more for the benefit of the new Christian (making a public profession of faith) than for anybody else.
I do think the Bible makes salvation much simpler than some I've read on the board here. One should'nt be required to read and understand all there is to know about theology in order to get saved. Just as there is such a thing as easy beleivism, there is such a thing is you must be able to quote Erickson,Calvin,Bancroft and a litany of others before we would even consider the remote chance that you are saved.Maybe we could start salvation ordination commitees.

Easy believism is equivalent to a pagan's incantation.

Say these words and your saved, "....

Genuine salvation requires conviction, confession, and repentence... it is an internal change of spiritual nature that isn't accomplished just by saying a "sinner's prayer."

A person can admit they are a sinner, they can want to go to heaven, they can realize their life is a wreck without doing these, they can cry and say all kinds of prayers, and a whole host of other outward actions that often accompany salvation without doing any of these 3 things.

The terrible effect of easy-believism is that people are innoculated from hearing the gospel by saying a few words then continuing their lives as before.

The terrible effect of being to cautious about how the gospel is explained is that people can't always absorb everything.

At a minimum, a person should know what repentance is and that following Christ has costs as well as benefits.

A "soul winner" whose approach is: "Do you want to go to heaven? (Yes) Do you realize you are a sinner? (Yes) Are you sorry? (Yes) Would you like to "change"? (Who doesn't) OK then, repeat after me... I now pronounce you saved" probably isn't explaining the gospel clearly enough.

And don't waste key strokes on trying to convince me that no one is doing this because I know for an absolute fact that they are... among supposed IFB's.

You missed the part where you ask them if they believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for their sins. That is the believe part of easy believism.
