The beauty of America is that unlike China and Russia and North Korea, NOBODY will stop you from leaving.
So if you believe that there is someplace better to raise your children … then GO, raise them there with our blessings!

Montenegro

My Serbian isn't good enough and living among Eastern Orthodox with a recent history of ethnic cleansing would make me, as a Baptist, nervous ... but that is the beauty of America: You can move to Montenegro and the government will not stop you (or even discourage it).

The average earnings (gross) in Montenegro in May 2024 are 1042 Euro, ($1094) while the average earnings without taxes and contributions (net) are 832 Euro. [per month]

Since Sloan Kettering is here in NJ & NYC Montenegro is a vacation trip only. But from a scenic prospective, it sure beats New Jersey. :Biggrin

Healthcare, education and sauerbraten are three priorities for my family. Since my wife’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis, we have had to reset priorities and recently with Trumps removal of any price ceilings my wife’s meds have grown to rediculous levels. I also have two small toddler grandchildren who I’m conserved will not receive a top notch education in the States. Europe is a very possible solution, particularly Germany (I like the food & the beer). My wife’s father is from Stuttgart and my sons company, Volkswagen, Porsche is also located there…I’m seriously evaluating the options of a move. And of course that would mean I’d have to leave my happy home in New Jersey :Cry Oh well;)

He has a PHD in economics….do you?

PHD’s are no guarantee of intelligence. In fact it can indicate heavy indoctrination in myths and stupidity.

I’ve wiped the floor with professors by reduction of their arguments, and busting their myths.

One of the persistent myths in academia was that Hitler and the Nazis were right wing, I totally destroyed two PHDs on the subject. They followed the same unthinking, lazy line that so many others have. A lot of academics are programmed, they actually aren’t thinkers, let alone original thinkers.

All you need is universal healthcare, which is 2% levy on those earning over 100k.
But it’s for citizens only.

With income tax phased out, it’s totally doable, even universal dental becomes a possibility.

The other thing the US needs to do is disconnect health insurance from employment. Lose your job, lose your insurance!! What are they trying to do, keep rats on a treadmill running in fear?

People can get fired frivolously as well. Here we have unfair dismissal laws, where employers have to show proper grounds or face penalties, and restitution.

Only 2 weeks vacation, it’s not enough. Here people can really use their holidays.

We get 4 weeks paid holidays here and long service leave after 7 years to 10 years, which gives you 3 months at full pay and 6 months at half pay depending. But you still accrue annual leave whilst on long service leave. And take long service leave in instalments.
Or you can cash in your long service leave if you need to.

You can also accrue huge sick leave if you don’t use it. Many people don’t even need to use their income protection insurance if they get a serious condition.

Americans seem over worked, and have less of a safety net. Just a few tweaks like this could make a big difference I reckon.

The other thing is the cost of Pharmaceuticals. Here there is a limit to the out of pocket expenses a patient pays. After that there is no charge for medications for the rest of the year. Pharmaceutical benefit Scheme is a real life saver, people don’t bankrupt themselves paying for pharmaceuticals.

So this doesn’t concern you….it should.

Per Wiki:

As of January 25, 2025, China owned $768.6 billion of US debt, which is about 8.9% of the total US national debt. This makes China the second-largest foreign owner of US debt, after Japan.

What is being done to address this?

I’d like to see how Germany reorients its economy after the Conservative government takes over. Watch and see mode. They may start cutting social programs like our own Dear Leader is doing.
