If you write to the US Postal sevice about the Eid stamp, this is the reply.

    Dear USPS Customer,

We have received your recent email concerning the USPS decision to release
the EID stamp. We have read your concerns about the Muslim religion and the
acts of terrorism against the United States and its citizens. We
understands your concerns but feel there are misguided. The attacks against
the US were not acts by the Muslim world or condoned by the Muslim Religion.
These acts of terrorism were carried out by a faction of the Muslim faith
that hide behind an incorrect interpretation of the Muslim religion.
Throughout history acts of terrorism, murder, theft, etc have resulted from
individuals using religion as a basis to eliminate those of another culture,
religion, or country. If you look at every major religion in the world, at
one point a faction of that religion has terrorized those of another. This
is evident in the Christian Crusades during the Middle ages, the
Hindu-Muslim wars that carry on through today, the slaughter of Native
Americans, or the recent attacks on the US and Israel. In the present day
when the movement for peace and understanding is so important we must all
understand that these acts are not done by Islam, they are committed by
individuals that use religion as an excuse to display their hatred. We feel
it is important that people, especially Americans understand the true
meaning of Islam and the peaceful nature for which it stands.

Aside from the poor grammar, I think its fairly insulting. My views are misguided, but the Postal Services are right on.

I'd be curious as to which individual sent this to you. The grammar indicates to me that it has been altered, forged, or possibly spammed.

The signature is "USPS Internet Customer Care Center icustomercare@usps.com". It came to me on my felderman@baptist.com address. That was the email on which I had sent my letter. I simply did a "cut and paste" job to here. I was also really surprised by the grammar. I am almost famous for my grammar mistakes, but before I send out an "official" reply I usually proof-read and have someone else proof read it too.

I didn't mean to accuse you, forgive me if it came off that way. Others who have inquired about the stamp have gotten a simple response saying something to the effect of "we appreciate your input. At this time, we do not plan on discontinuing the stamp" or something to that effect. Just curious as to the responses anyone else has gotten.

I personally don't have a problem with the stamp, but I do have a problem with the response, if the posted response is typical.

It`s too bad we can not boycott them, that would sure let them know how misguided we are.

Why can't you? I mean, on some level, anyway.

Switch your bills to online only, send e-mail instead of letters, send packages through FedEx or UPS. There are all sorts of ways to get around the USPS.

That said, I see no reason to boycott the USPS. We have Christmas stamps, and there seems to be no problem with those.

I will say that the response you got is troublesome, not only because of the poor grammar, but because it includes superfluous explaining. They don't need to do all that. THe response someone else posted a few days back is what would expect from a government agency, and isn't nearly as inappropriate as what you got.

    Not that it's wrong, though.

    Although, isn't it usps.gov ?

Never mind - I just looked at Barnabas' post in which he included a response -- it was from usps.com, too. But his response didn't have any of that in it. Unless, perhaps, he edited it out. I don't know.

The best thing to do is simply to not use the stamps in question. I think the USPS still has an abundant supply of Richard Nixon stamps for that very reason (the USPS always issues a commemorative presidential postage stamp after that president dies).

Johnv I did not take it as an accusion, I just was clarifying for all. I forwarded the reply to the President and to my Senator. I am pretty sure the email to the USPS as well as those to the Pres and Sen were wastes of time.
