"Era of Good Feelings" for Democrats soon?

No, because both parties are equally corrupt. Both are equally more concerned about their own power than the welfare of the American people. The fight between the parties is a facade. They protect each others monopoly on power. If you do not believe it, see how they band together if a third party ever gets serious.

 

I hope not - having at least two parties roughly equal works as a bit of a check on corruption and complacency.

 

So many of us thought after 2004 that the Republicans would be in power for many years to come, and the Democrats would fade with the likes of the Whigs, Federalists, etc. And then, 2005 happened, and to top it off, 2006 came along.

We have the war going horribly wrong in 05 and 06, the Abramoff scandal, the Foley scandal, cover ups all over the place, etc. It was enough to reverse the flow.

The problem for Democrats now is that they will do just as the Republicans and think they have full and complete run of the house based on the last election. They will start doing whatever they want, legal or not, and they'll be voted out in a few years as well.

I think at every national election, you have 40% who will always vote Democratic and 40% who will always vote Republican (unless you have overt corruption proven and the party serving jailtime), and then there are the 20% who sway from side to side depending on which party has acted better or worse over the past couple of years. In 2006, the Republicans were spanked for being bad politicians.

That's politics in a nutshell.
