I am currently reading this book.

It is a tough book to read. The authors shoot straight about the topic (sexual purity), and do not pull their punches.

Has anyone else read this book? And, if so, what was your impression?

    In Christ,

Good book. While I agree that it's tough to read it's an honest approach to a subject that many men battle with. I was glad that it was recommended to me. I would recommend it to others.

    Sspinko52,

I would recommend it as well. While the subject is one that most would not discuss, it is one that affects all men in one fashion or another.

While I think they may at times go into a little too much detail, it was well worth reading. I would not hesitate to recommend it to any man, especially if he is struggling in those areas. Lust is something that we are all subject to (hence the title, heheh) and it is a serious problem. In this day and age, you can hardly leave your house without being visually assaulted by sexually explicit advertising, let alone turn on a television. Jesus said if we even look upon a woman to lust, we have committed adultery in our heart. I agree with the brothers who wrote the book, the best policy is not to look at them.

Hey, James, you ever heard of the Bruised and Bleeding Pharisees?

They closed their eyes everytime they saw a woman...hence their name.

I'm not talking about not looking at any women. But the women of today who do not dress modestly, or who deliberately expose themselves to entice men, why would I want to look at that? I know why I would want to look at it... to lust. So when you see em coming, its easy to look away from them. Which is basically what the book espouses, what they term 'bouncing your eyes'. They suggest that as a man, you train your eyes not to linger on these women as they have a tendency to do, but rather look away from them as soon as you see what you are looking at.

As I said before, if we look upon a woman to lust, we have committed adultery. It doesnt say if we lust after a woman, it says if we look upon a woman to lust.

The Second look is sin, so if you see something you like, don't look away

Seriously though, I have heard about this book, and y'all are giving it fairly good recommendations, at least what I would expect given the subject matter. No one likes to admit that the book was useful, since that would mean you have a problem. So take to heart the title, EVERY man's battle.

I will have to check it out. On a related note, We are having a men's conference at our church this Saturday titled "The Pursuit of Purity" Our pastor and an associate pastor will be speaking. Its for men and high school guys. If you live in the Detroit area and are interested let me know, I will PM you the info. It is a subject my pastor is very strong on, since he has been dealing with it on many fronts and has seen much damage done to good men.

I think the book is very good, although I agree with James that it is unnecessarily graphic in a few places, particularly in the opening chapter where he describes his car accident. Most men do not need help visualizing what he was talking about.

But very straight to the point about something that all men deal with on a regular basis to some degree or another.

To a small degree, it is very behavioristic which is okay, but it has its limitations. Until we love something more than lust, behavior modifications will be a bandaid that breaks too often and too easily.
