I am wondering what people here think of the HCSB.

Here are some questions. Please pick the one which is the most truthful in your case.

I would also like explanations to be posted.

I am trying to discern how many non-SBC's have a problem with thinking the HCSB is going to be slanted towards SBC even though the editors have claimed it to be a good literal translation.

In my opinion it is a good translation without bias, but will the publisher's name have an effect on its marketing.

I'm also wanting to know who re KJVonly's so they don't effect the poll by saying they don't like it when they don't like anything but the KJV. That's okay, I just want to know.

That is fine. I should have made that a possibile answer. I do hope you have a chance to review one sometime in the future. I know there is a stigma from the publisher, but I do think it is a good, easy to read, literal translation. I just hope people don't avoid it only because of the publisher and miss out on a good translation in modern languge. IMHO.

    I'm getting to where
i use all three of my different KJVs.
It had a lot to do with getting an electronic
copy of the KJV1611 from http://www.e-sword.net/
Even the KJVOs should be pleased with this
    KJV1611 from e-sword - i doesn't contain
    those pesky translator footnotes ;)

I answered the poll only because you included an answer for guys like me! :D

I probably won't be looking at an HCSB unless the developer of my software includes it in future updates, as he has done with the ASV in recent years.

Personally can't justify purchasing what would gather dust on my bookshelf. I have way TOOO many books like that already. Read it once and there it sits. OTOH, books I find useful get worn out pretty fast.

    In HIS service;
    Jim

    AMEN, Ed! [IMG]

The rest of you who read this, please ask your friends on the board to vote. I would like to see how the HCSB is doing. This is just curiosity.

It is difficult to cover every possible preference for translations. For instance, I didn't put "HCSB ONLY" for Ed.

I am not SBC, but I like the HCSB. I bought one about four months ago and have been reading through the NT and parts of Psalms.

Thanks for your vote. Yes, it is a shame that the HCSB is being sold directly out of Holman. Personally, I think that was simply a bad marketing idea. It appears to be a good translation.

For those of you who don't have it and would like to look at it go to e-sword.net and download their software, then under Bibles, download the HCSB. It is ALL FREE! You can also get the ESV free along with the REAL AV1611 and Geneva Bibles. Great software. I have no idea how they got Holman and the other company to give them new versions to give out.

Unless they think most people will not read much on the computer, but if they like it will buy the book anyway. That's a good marketing plan I think. Too bad NIV, NKJV and NASB won't do that.

Thank you for voting. The results are interesting. Funny, the non-SBC's are one ahead of the SBC's that like it.

West, I bought a 2 dollar hard-back (with a broken spine) from ebay. I've been reading through it, but I have to use my reading glasses.

How do we talk Dr. Bob into reading a translation printed by those heathen SBCs like me?

Seriously, I would certainly like to hear what he thinks about the translation itself.

I am SBC and I like the HCSB - don't own a hardback copy yet - reading through on the Bible Navigator software. Last night I took one of my Army buddy's to the Lifeway store in Fayetteville NC and helped him pick out a HCSB to read (and he is a Presbyterian, but has not read the Bible much in years). Another Army buddy was with us, he is a member of a local Bible church, and he looked the HCSB over and is going to buy one as well. I noticed the hardback pew editions are only $10.95 each, pretty cheap for a hardback book. Bruce
