Exodus wrap-up

The first two chapters of Exodus cover about 80 years, from Moses' birth to his calling by the Lord from the burning bush. Sometimes we forget that the trek through the wilderness all took place during the forty years AFTER he was 80! That's pretty incredible, especially since we read in Moses' own contribution to the Psalms that a long lifespan in his time was seventy years! And Sarah thought having a baby at 90 was hard!

People often make the mistake of saying "God won't give you anything you can't handle."

Moses would have disagreed. He could have 'handled' nothing without the Lord and even some human help. The book of Exodus is an example of that.

In Genesis we saw the beginnings. Of everything.

In Exodus, we see the revelation of God in character, law, and trustworthiness. He is the God above all gods Egypt has to offer. He protects those who are His, and leads and provides for them. He punishes evil and rebellion. He demands people make a choice, as the Levites had to. He establishes a series of laws which turn out to be for our protection as individuals. And, despite His anger at the Israelites several times, He does not leave them or forsake them.

So although what we read about is the exit, or Exodus, of the Israelite people from Egypt, what we actually see if we step back a step, is God's character.

Take the time to go back over this book very quickly, skimming it only, and look for God's character.
