Has anyone of you experienced any supernatural encounters with the Living God? Like a moment of protection, special visitation...whatever? I'm talking about experiences after the new birth. [IMG]

Through the word from the Word, Robert! The scriptures!! Everytime you and I get into the word---we get the Heartburn on the Highway of Holiness!! God speaks to me through scriptures---the most reliable, infallable, inerrant, inspired, truthful source!!

    Blackbird,

Yes, the bible is reliable, infallible, inerrant, inspired, and truthful. When I refer to a "supernatural encounter," I do not mean something that adds or subtracts to doctrine or contradicts Scripture. I'm referring to something like a "burning bush" encounter, when God intervenes through teriffic healings, divine protection, miracles, etc...

Like for example: a team from Campus Crusade goes to this remote village in the Philippines to show the Jesus film. Many accept and receive Christ. The reason is...a majority of the villagers dreamed the night before of a "man" who just looked like the Jesus they saw on the film.

I believe those things you are talking about are real.

I have experienced a few things, but most of them are things that I do not feel led to share here. Not that it's personal or private, but I just don't feel that pull from God to share them except for one.

Several years ago, a wonderful woman from our church was dying. Both she and her husband were active and devoted members of our church.

He had taken off from work as much as he could without endangering his job status and he asked if someone could sit with his wife during the day at the hospital.

I volunteered and it ended up being only one day as some of his cousins came and took up the slack.

    He stayed at night.

While I was there for that one day, it was horrible. I have been around dying people before and it does not make me squeamish.

But this woman's cancer was causing her so much pain and she was on so much medication for pain that she was not lucid at all.

She lay there and moaned and cried out in a stupor not even knowing that I was there. She was like a dying worm rolling around in agony on hot ashes.

Her son and daughter were on their way into town because they had been told that it was any day. They had been with her before, coming in back and forth, but they could not leave their out-of-state lives on hold for an unknown time.

Anway, the phone rang. I panicked. Should I answer it? It was definitely not her husband. I didn't know any of her family well enough to have a conversation with her yelling in pain in the background.

Suddenly, she stopped writhing and moaning. She sat up straight, looking as calm and lucid as me.

She answered the phone. It was her daughter.

    The conversation was not long.

They laughed and talked little, then she said, "You need to come on home, sweetheart, we have some things to talk about."

She put the phone down slowly and never even acknowledged my prescence there beside her bed.

She quietly lay back down and fell back into the dying stupor and hellish suffering.

I witnessed a miracle. God gave her a few moments of grace and peace to talk to her daughter and have a conversation full of love for possibly the last time, I don't know.

She died a few days later.

    I will never forget that.

    Peace-

    YSIC

    Scarlett,

There are a lot things happening out there that we Baptists are quick to dismiss as figments of the imagination. Most of us who experience such are labeled "nuts."

It's just so sad that Baptists unwittingly put too much of the Rational into Christianity.

Yes, many times, and a handful of them are very dramatic. One is so dramatic that it would likely warrant public attention - and that particular one can be proven empirically. But I won't share them publicly, and I've rarely shared them privately.

Why? Because I love my brethren. The supernatural intervention of God's grace and power in someone's life is a personal, yet subjective experience. There are thousands upon thousands and thousands of my brethren who have never experienced the supernatural intervention of God in their lives in a direct way - that is to say, God has not supernaturally imposed His will upon the natural order of things in this time-space continuum on their behalf. Yet they are much greater than I in the Lord and lived more obedient lives, people to whom I will soon become subservient. It's almost like Jesus said to Thomas - "blessed are those who have not seen, yet believed." I dare not glory in the grace of Almighty God. And most importantly, I dare not cause a brother or sister to feel, even for a moment, that they might be any less important to God for lack of such an experience.

Every encounter with God is supernatural, from salvation to the Holy Spirit revealing truth, to giving understanding of scripture, a call to service, worship and giving.

    Donna,

I agree with you here 100%. But what we're talking about is God superimposing his will on the natural order of things, as Ivy Leaguer said. We're talking about events "out of the ordinary."

I had an event awhile back that I believe to be supernatural.

I was at work (McDonald's). I was managing the Drive-Thru, and completing orders. I heard one of my employees (The young lady taking the orders) tell me through the headset that the guy ordering was really creepy. I had seen creepy guys before and thought, he can't be that bad.

He then pulled up to my window, I calmly handed him the bag and said quickly "Thank you sir, have a nice day."

Then our eyes locked. I have NEVER felt anything like that. It seemed like his eyes penetrated me. He looked at me with his eyes wide open and said "Thank you." But he continued to stare at me, as he did I physically felt like his hands were grabbing my shoulders and chest and back, even though he was almost 6 feet away, and 3 feet lower.

I couldn't move. But somehow I was able to break free, I went right around the corner to get out of eyeshot. I felt like throwing up. I then looked to see if his car was still there and it was.

Now I was raised with the mindset that a man sometimes needs to take the lead, just buck up and get done what needs to get done.

I knew that whatever he was, he needed to be gone, and I felt a responsiblity to get rid of him. I felt an obligation to protect the rest of my employees (it was early in the morning and only me and three women were working) and get it done.

I went back up to the window and asked deliberately "Is there something wrong, sir?" He looked at me with his eyes still opened as wide as can be and quietly said "Where's the reciept?" I again felt the hands on my body. I pointed to the part of the bag out of his sight and said "Right there!" He saw it and looked straight at me, eyes still huge, and drove off while staring at me.

I was in excellent shape, still am, but the rest of the day I felt sick to my stomach, and my whole back was tight, sore, and I felt like I was going to throw up.

I do not know what exactly happened there, but I do believe it was supernatural.

One other thing I know was that my Saviour was with me, and protected me.

Almost every time I open the Word of God I have a supernatural encounter with God. When a holy God sees fit to communicate with me in His Word it is supernatural, amazing, and out of the ordinary.

Whenever someone gets saved I see a divine, miraculaous, encounter with God.

Everytime He gives me grace in a trial I see His mighty hand in a supernatural way.

Absolutley! On two seperate occasions I have had a vision where I have seen Jesus.

I cant describe what it was like because words dont do justice to it. Yet what I have come to learn is that when we do experience something that we can only term Supernatural, often what we have seen is meant for us to see, but not for anyone else. God has a personal relationship with each of us, and my Experience is not another persons experience with God.

You ever been sitting in church and the Holy Spirit uses His Word to smack you upside the head like a 2x4 to wake you up to some sin in your life?

    That's pretty supernatural to me!

    Supernatural protection;

When in a backslidden state I was riding in a van with a couple friends. The driver was speeding and we were all drinking. Not good. The van hit a spot on the highway that had just been chip sealed. We swerved back and forth. This was on a mountian road. As the van approached the edge of the road (side ways) that was on the cliff side, it tilted up onto two wheels. I looked out the window and saw only the cliff, which was about a hundred feet to the bottom. I quietly said simply, ;"Jesus!".

The NEXT thing any of us could remember was that we, all three, were standing on the OTHER SIDE of the road, the van was on its side, the wheels still spinning, and all three of us were unharmed except I had a 2" cut on my head. That's IT!

I can't/haven't explained it any other way than God did SOMETHING. I was saved at the time, but living like the devil. I think God still helps even His wayward kids.

And yes, for reasons only He knows, He still intervenes in the affairs of men. BTW, I had only been saved a couple years. So I did not know much about how God does things. This happened in 1982 and I have never thought of God as anything BUT personally interested in me since then.

    In HIS service;
    Jim

One instance that comes to mind for me is my husband getting immediately healed. He was pretty sick with the flu. He was upset and just feeling horrible. I was in the bedroom and so was my oldest son. He said let's please pray for me. We did and in that very instant he was healed. We could hardly believe it. He was crying and shouting Praises to God the rest of the evening. We will never forget that.

We have no idea why God chose that time to do that, and not other times. Like with his diabetes, high blood pressure, and other things. I don't understand it, but I'm thankful to the Lord daily for His Love, Mercy, and Grace. [IMG]

Exactly. I have a friend who would make fun of my God encounters until it happened to her one day.
