Just think about the overtime bill for the army for that day.

Jos 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. [Is] not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

Extra time for what, and to what ?

Personally I don't care about any extra time. I'd rather time was no more and all who would be with the Lord be with the Lord already, away from this sin-wracked body and sin-filled world.

I don't know if all mankind noticed an extra 40 minutes in Hezekiah's day.

But in Joshua's day it was noticed in other parts of the world. there were reports of a very long day.

So I suppose the answer to your question would be yes for all mankind.

The Oklahoma Constitution requires that the
Legislature close at Midnight on 31 May.
(In 2007 the legislature closed on 29 May.)
But some years come Midnight at the end of
31 May, the legislature is still meeting.
They put a cover on the calendar/clock.
When they get done - they uncover
the calendar/clock and close. They always
comply with the Oklahoma Constitution -- well
to the letter of the law.

In a sermon by James Knox called Science and the bible in the last message on Joshua's long day he quotes old records from various cultures.

In the reign of Chinese Emperor Yeo Caridotas writes in the temple records of a long day twice as long. also the Persian records talk about a long day as do the Aztexs ,and the Polinesians have a legend of a long day.

Just like the legends of the flood in various cultures they support the truth of the bible account. but if there were none, I would still believe the bible.

"Oh, man, look at the time! I'm going to be late for the meeting..."

    ZAP!

    "Cool. I'm early now..."

This is secondary data and worse, anecdotal. I doubt the veracity of Knox's sources. I would have to see the original stories, as well as something to tie them to the same day.

Basically, this type of tale is legend, not literal. For the earth's rotation to stop and start would require forces sufficient to destroy the planet. It also goes beyond any reasonable view of reality.

For God to create everything out of nothing would require forces way beyond that, and that goes beyond any (of man's) rational view of reality.

Not only does it go beyond any rational view of reality, it would also have caused tsunamis of unheard of proportions, likely covering all land on earth.

No, I just have a firm grasp on reality and the ability to tell what is obviously legends and parables.

And you can tell how? Don't tell me. I bet it's the a-priori assumption is that nothing happens outside the natural. If something requires the supernatural, it must be a legend or parable. I'll bet you believe in evolution, too.

I suppose you don't believe God parted the red sea either, and that the children of Israel caught a ferry over to the other side.

Rex, you are correct. I have studied the ancient stories for years. The ancient Americans recorded the aberration, as did the Chinese. The earth wobbled on its axis during Joshua's long day, Hezekiah's time, and when the sun went down at noon on the day of the Crucifixion. This is all quite explainable scientifically, but that is what happened in short form.
