Faith-Based Hospitals Could Close If Obama Signs Freedom of Choice Act

Monday, December 01, 2008
By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

“Well, the first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” Obama said at a July 17, 2007 meeting of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “That’s the first thing I’d do.”

"In practical terms, this (FOCA) would mean the closure of every Catholic hospital in the nation," Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, told Life SiteNews.com. "No bishop is going to stand by and allow the federal government to dictate what medical procedures must be performed in Catholic hospitals.

"Make no mistake about it, the bishops would shut down Catholic hospitals before acquiescing in the intentional killing of an innocent child. Were this to happen, it would not only cripple the poor, it would cripple the Obama administration."

I would say that if Catholic hospitals receive no public funding, they should be able to set the scope of services they provide. If, on the other hand, they are funded by taxpayers, they open the door to government intervention in this area. If you take government funding, guess who can say how it is to be spent.

If they are an accredited health care institution, they are mandated to follow the govt rules and regs.

Also, if they accept payment from Medicare or BC/BS or any other health insurance, they will be subject to govt rules and regs. So there ya go....

If a person's religion doesn't permit them to judge another person, they are exempt from jury duty.

If a person's religion won't permit them to serve in a combat role, they again are exempt.

For the life of me I can't see why a doctor doesn't have a choice when doing non-life threatening abortions??? I just don't get it... :BangHead:

But at least Obama will end the war ... or not.

And at least he tax the rich to give tax breaks to 95% of America ... or not.

Folks, we knew this was coming when he ran. And there are some here who claim to be believers who voted for him knowing this. And that is distressing.

But at least he's not McCain, right?

emphasis mine

LB, this is exactly the type thing you can expect with a liberal regime.

Post after post on this board have been trying to point out the fallacy of the concept of true "individual freedom" within the D party for years now.

Don't be surprised to see this type thing multiply as the Ds settle in and revel in their new-found power.

Just remember that it was predicted long before it materialized, and you may as well get used to it.

That is, should He delay His coming! :praying:

I work for a Catholic hospital. I have worked here for many years and this hasn't even been mentioned. Nothing, not a peep.

Yes, we are connected enough to know about such things. This hospital I work for often annouces things that will affect the hospital or it's staff. We just went through a closing of a complete department (the psych ward) because there just wasn't enough people there to make it profitable. They don't 'hide' things like a lot of other places.

With us not hearing anything about it, either they are not concerned about what Obama will or won't do, or they know it won't affect out business.

In my opinion, this is just more thrashing before anything is done...

Evidence has already been submitted that trumps your anecdote of one ear in one hospital.

You are typically in denial that your choice for president will do anything so wrong.

He will. Absolutely.

Please don't act surprised when he does. You supported him knowing his radical positions on all things concerning abortion.

What you call evidence I call opinion or speculation. As on now, NO Catholic hospital has closed because of this bill. The bill hasn't even become law yet, so there is your evidence.

Here is where you're really wrong...

I didn't vote for this clown. I didn't support this clown. And yet, you think I do and did!! Go back and re read some posts and find out who I support before you make a bigger fool of yourself.

I never supported Obama, I defend the stupid things like ripping him apart for his middle name when there were other things to level against him during the election.

In fact I will go one step further.. IF people had brought up REAL items to level against him instead of all this stupid stuff like his middle name and how Michelle would act as First lady, then McCain would have had a beter chance. Instead people pounded the drum of silly and now wonder why they lost?!?

I also, for the record voted for Ron Paul, it was a write in vote. Get YOUR facts straight before you start to sling mud...

That's what you get when you invite the federal government to take care of you. While we're pondering this problem we're busy working on creating some news for years to come.
