Fast Food 'Strikes' Just a Front for Massive Union Organizing Campaign

The media have extensively covered global fast food “strikes” today. But very few actual workers participated in #FastFoodStrike. USA Today reports only “hundreds of fast food workers” went on strike – out of 10.6 million U.S. fast food employees. Fewer than 1 in 10,000 workers have joined the protests. So why such buzz?
Because of an extensive – and expensive – PR campaign by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The end goal: taking dues from millions of fast food workers. But don’t just take my word for it. An openly socialist magazine called In These Times investigated. It reports that:
The tale being told in the media is one of a spontaneous, worker-led uprising … But three former organizers in Chicago who joined the campaign in late 2011, and two former organizers with NYCC who began petitioning in March 2012, all dispute this story. All say that from the get-go, the stated goal was to organize low-wage or fast-food workers. All say they were told within weeks or months that SEIU was funding the organizing, and all say that it became increasingly clear that SEIU was directing the campaign …
Brooke (not his real name), who was hired by Action Now in December 2011, says that despite close supervision, organizing leaders denied they were in charge: “I was told, ‘It’s all about the workers. We have to leave it up to the workers.’ Then [SEIU leadership] tells the media, ‘It’s spontaneous; the workers came to us.’ It’s duplicitous. It’s to get people to stop asking questions.”

Pay workers a living wage, treat them right and there would be no need of unions or strikes.

Apparently we do not need unions in the fast food industry. They have to contrive strikes out of thin air with no real fast food employees. Unions are thugs and liars. They are more corrupt than any company. Any support of them is support for what they do.

The minimum wage workers will probably be replaced with computers.

The bigger thread of computers and robotics are the middle class workers. Also 3D printing is going to put lots of people in manufacturing out of work. Electronics workers are also very vulnerable to being replaced by technology in the future.

But your reply is rather off topic. As I said earlier if fast food outlets paid a living wage and treated their workers well there would be no need for unions or strikes.

Fast food was automated back in the 30's and 40's. They were called automats, but gradually disappeared as time went by ... could be they will come back.

You mean "threat", right ?

And my reply is on-topic, as workers who strike, especially fast food workers, get replaced by machines.

These protests are clearly a front for organized labor.

At this point I really believe the position of the major chains is to ignore them and not engage. They absolutely have the right to do so. If these individuals don't wish to advance in education and life, then perhaps a lower wage lifestyle is for them.

If these workers want to walk off the job then they will be easily replaced. The workers are not in a position to argue with the corporation.

I read that in Denmark - fast food workers make about 45 grand a year.

but then again - one Big Mac costs over $6 & that is just the sandwinch - no soda, no fries.....

You do have to admit one thing - Air traffic controllers do have a very stressful job - very unlike fast food joint workers.

Try working on their side of the counter before making such a statement. Sure the stress is different, but the public they have to serve is often anything except polite and courteous. Knew a young woman years ago, a high school senior, who got a job at a fast food place to earn some money for Christmas. She quit within a week saying she could not stand how nasty most of the customers were.

How tolerant would you be of rude customers?

The world population, approaching 7B, falls into three classes: the haves, have littles and have nothings. Mostly because of solidarity, some have nothings have moved to have a little class(aka: middle class). A good surf: read about Henry Ford and his labor adventures with auto workers who unionized.

Union contracts are not made among gentlemen. This is still about exploitation of the masses, greed and love of money. World economics is driven by crude oil and opium derivatives.

Now what? Watch and pray. Our redemption draws near.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I have worked behind the counter- and I am very tolerant of rude customers.
Why - because they pay. My problem was when I was a taxi driver and my Medicaid "customers" who paid zero dollars for their ride and were extremely rude and demanding.

Actually, I made more money working at taxi then at the C-Store.

bottom line - are you saying the stress of the air controllers the same as fast food counter workers.

I believe if you reread my post you will see I said the stress is different. But stress, does not matter what kind of stress, affects the body and health in the same way.

Yes - the stress is totally different. One has the lives of hundreds of people in his hands.

The other - well, if that stress bothers them that much - then they have another problem. - and if that low level stress affects you excessively - than you need to learn to deal with it.
Depending on the customer and situation - I have several different methods to utilize.
My suggestion for those wimps - join the Army - you'll learn to deal with stress!

Just pay them a living wage, and they won't strike. Those are your words, not mine. Seems you're having to eat them.

Fast food is an ENTRY level not designed to make a living. The managers are well paid and most that think themselves worth more should move on to other jobs.
