Father Christmas

    What do we do with Christmas? I have always enjoyed the Christmas season, and Carol Singing has been included in the church services.

    Because the SDB are not near to me, I fellowship with the Church of God Seventh Day, who state that Christmas is in fact a Pagan festival and that it has no scriptural support what so ever. Resultingly the church encourages people not to have christmas trees, send christmas cards or any thing like that.

    I can see their point in a way, but many of the things the modern church does are not neccesarally done the same as the early church. The point that I am driving at, is that I can see a role for the church in Christmas. Yet is it wrong? or should we celebrate christmas?

    i believe that we should definitely celebrate christmas. maybe not with the way the world perceives it but by the Bible. christmas is a time to celebrate CHRISTS birth and to worship our LORD and SAVIOUR. the three wise men gave gifts to Jesus Mary and Joseph. my family would read scripture out of Matthew, Mark and Luke every year just to remind us what christmas is.

    I think we should celebrate Christmas everyday, not just one day a year. To celebrate the birth of the Savior each and every day of our lives, you'll have warm fuzzies every day, and that's what I call a "Wonderful Life". [​IMG]

    Christmas is in fact a Pagan festival and that it has no scriptural support what so ever.

    It's not a pagan festival, but it has pagan origins. But I think there are enough threads on this board to support the idea that it is not where something came from that matters, but what it is now and where it's going. As far as having no scriptural support, I find that arguement to be a slippery slope. There's no scriptural support for shaking hands either. Scripture also doesn't support the idea refraining from burping in public, but most would find it offensive to do so in church.

    I have issues as well about the commercialism of christmas. I do not approve of that part of it.

    I think we should be celebrating God giving us His only Son. Maybe we should be doing this all the time. But I am very glad we set a time aside for it.

    But I do agree we do need to draw a line somewhere with all the commercialism of the Santa junk.

    We also, in my house, do not buy anything that says yule on it.

    My Christmas struggle is this: Over the years I have come to feel that December 24 is more "spiritual" and "religious" than December 25 because of the Candlelight Service on the 24th. To me the 25th is nothing more than a time to open presents and eat too much.
