Fav world series game/moment

I think my favorite moment in the World Series would have to be Kurt Gibson's homerun vs. the A's in 1988. That was amazing.

I also enjoyed watching the Royals beat the Cardinals in 1985.

I think my favorite matchup to watch was when the Diamondbacks went up against those hated Yankees and knocked them off. That was fun to watch.

 

When Gibson came up to hit, I told my Dad before one pitch was thrown that Gibson was going to hit a homerun.

Watching the Cardinals lose is like watching the Yankees lose. It never gets old.

Wow you guys sound like me when I am talking about the cubbies.

Convicted by the Spirit I am rooting for the Astros in the series cause even though it is the White Sox I can't root for a Chicago team.

First the Red Sox break their curse, and if the White Sox break theirs then the next thing you know people will begin to think the cubbies can break theirs. We all know that if the cubbies ever make it to the World Series then the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are on their way.

I thought for sure Bill's favorite world series moment would be the Red Sox sweeping the Cards last year.

 

Cubbies break their so-called curse?

 

If the White Sox win, maybe it will rub off on the Cubbies for next year?

 

Tug McGraw's last strike pitch is good. My fave would have to be Eric Davis' 1st inning homer in game 1 of the '90 series. 2nd favorite would be the gw hit in game 2. Both places I watched the game were simply electric. The disrespected Reds swept the A's, and had it not been for Marge Schott's ego, a new Big Red Machine would've been born.

 

Before the 94 strike, the Reds were my team. I bled red.

Since then, I don't have a favorite team.

At the time, the 1990 Reds were the only team to have led their division from Opening Day to Season's End, wire-to-wire as it were. Those playoffs were a throwback to the Big Red Machine days as they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in 6 games.

The 90 Reds had Barry Larkin, Eric Davis, Paul O'Neill and a bunch of guys who had career years and were never heard from again. They had decent starters and the Nasty Boys in the bullpen of Rob Dibble and Randy Myers. Sweet Lou Pinella was the manager.

Though they led wire-to-wire, they finished 91-71, beating the Dodgers by only 5 games. At one point in the season, they had a double-digit lead in the standings. They stumbled to finish the season, which is the big reason they were disrespected before the playoffs started.

The A's had won 103 games and swept Boston in the ALCS. Dave Stewart (22-11) and Bob Welch (27-6) led the starters and Dennis Eckersley closed out games as one of the most dominant closers in history. On offense, the A's had Ricky Henderson, Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco.
On paper, the Series was a mismatch.

In Game 1, Eric Davis mashed a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st and the 7-0 beatdown was on.

Not a great Series by any means, but a satisfying series for those of us who bled red.
