One might think that my most favorite song
would be one from my own synagogue, but
it just is not true. I love "When Morning Gilds
the Sky." Why? I will tell you the words--
    you'll know.

    Verse 1
    When morning gilds the skies,
    My heart awaking cries,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Alike at work and prayer
    To Jesus I repair,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!

    v.3
    The night becomes as day
When from the heart we say,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The powers of darkness fear
When this sweet chant they hear,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!

    v.5
Be this, while life is mine,
    My canticle divine,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Be this th' eternal song
    Through all the ages long,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!

(I left out some verses, because I posted this
    song before.) 8o)

    May He be PRAISED!

"There's a hole in the bottom of the sea"
My toddler squeals in delight and fills in the blanks. Also, its quite stimulating to my poor over-Seussed, over-Mother-Goosed, and over-teletubbied brain. The last verse hails:
There's a speck on the hair on the wart on the frog on the bump on the log in the hole in the bottom of the sea...See???? [IMG] :D  [IMG]

The voices in my head won't stop singing the Pogues', "Fairytale of New York" or Brian Wilson's version of "Heroes and Villains".

If I'm not mistaken, this is where we are supposed to be able to go and discuss things pertaining to music, right?

    Thank you, Teresa.

I've searched, but can't find the topic in which both Dr. Bob and I asked that topics here be limited to Music Ministry or some other way related to the Bible.

It must have been purged.

Again, thank you for your help. [IMG]

There was a time when I was so fed up with
church and, the lousy things that can go on
there, that I had verbally told our God I was
sick of being a servant, and from that time on,
I was serving No One, other than myself. I
had also told Him I wished He would leave me
alone and quit messing with my life.

You know, He never takes my advice!

Just days later, I was driving down the street,
an the song, "You Gotta Serve Somebody"
came on. Truth smacked me around a bit that
day. I made my choice--immediately, in the
car, still driving down the street, with profound
    and sincere apologies.

I fell over laughing when I read this. The 4 faces at the end said it all!

The same thing used to happen to me with "Father Abraham," only I was also stuck with the body movements as well (. . .right arm, left arm, right foot, left foot. . .). I first heard it while I was teaching music at a Christian school, and I could never clearly get the words from the kids.

There were always volunteers to come up front and perform the "movements" that went along with the song; and watching them get progressively more spastic in their movements as more body parts became involved in the song left me very much  which made the kids laugh even harder, causing the song to degrade and fall completely apart.

It wasn't until a few years later that I found out the words and body movements from my sister when I brought the subject up as she was looking for songs to do with some of the younger children at her church. My little niece showed me the steps as my sister sang the song (. . .I love my niece, she was raised right. . . she HELPS her poor ;) uncle. . .).

Right now, my favorite is "You Are Still Holy."

Last weekend, some very dear (outta state) friends visited with us and their children sang a song entitled, "So Much The More". The song is based on Hebrews 10:25. It really blessed my heart and has been my favorite song all week. [IMG] I don't know who wrote it, but here are the words:

The "Hallelujah" isn't one of my favorites from "Messiah." It's great, but not as great as several other pieces.

My favorite section is the magnificent triple chorus in Part II:

    II

"Surely, He hath borne our griefs," "And with His stripes," and "All we like sheep have gone astray."

In the last one the sudden transition from pastoral frolic to the somber "And the Lord hath laid on Him the inquity of us all" can make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. [IMG]

Teresa, I have dreams about playing it on guitar...I think playing it on CD is about as close as I'll ever get to that though [IMG]

rsr, Hallelujah has been my favourite since I was about 8 or 9 or something. Although maybe I should say Messiah instead of just Hallelujah [IMG] ("...just Hallelujah" ?!?!? *COUGH*) I usually refuse to play the "favourite Bible verse" game, saying "Genesis 1:1 - Revelation 22:21" when that topic comes up [IMG]

    Pete:

I understand. There are so many good pieces in "Messiah" that it's hard to choose. I've sung it at Christmas the past dozen years or so (and once at Easter) and continue to love it more.

It's really a miraculous work: Written by a German but in English so it needs no translation. It's hard to believe that Handel's work was once considered inconsequential.
