Favorite Edition(s) of Your Favorite Translation

ESV Thinline. It is not truly God's word unless it is a thinline.

 

...and BIG PRINT. I guess the Apostle Paul would have liked a big print edition too.

 

Favorite editions...

Jerusalem Bible (with Salvador Dali prints, a collector's item)
NIV Study Bible (Zondervan...good notes, don't always agree with them)
RSV (Annotated Oxford...good notes, slightly liberal)
New Jerusalem Bible (recent leather-bound Standard edition or the Study Bible, with very-good notes)
NRSV (Annotated Oxford 2nd edition only)

 

My favorite Bible I have (not necessarily my favorite translation, although I am very fond of it) is my KJV Cambridge Calfskin Large Print Reference Bible. The one I use the most that I am very fond of as well is my NKJV Thompson Chain Reference Bible, probably my favorite Reference Bible. I also enjoy my MacArthur Study Bible too.

My personal favorite Bibles have varied over the past 20 years.

In the 80's, when I really began to study the Bible daily, I obtained and developed a love for a Moody thinline NASB reference Bible. For some reason, I was always attracted to that particular style and edition.

Later, in the early 90's when Kirkbride released the Thompson Chain Reference in the NASB, I was estatic. I had always liked the features of Thompson Chain Bibles, but it had not been available in my favorite translation. (Alas, with their refusal to update their NASB edition to the 95 Update, this is once again true).

Recently, I've been using the Updated NASB Side Column Wide Margin reference. I love the layout, font size, and overall quality of this Bible. As I've developed the habit of extensive notetaking, the wide margins are also a real plus.

Finally, I'm waiting to see what the ESV wide margin reference edition will look like. Hopefully, the quality of this publication will be a noted improvement on their earlier editions.

my favorite is the Scofiled 1st edition KJV.

 

That is classic.

 

That edition would be even better if it wasn't bound in cardboard.

 

LOL...I love thinlines as well. Would take a thinline over any other kind.

My friend has one, except it's black. Man, the calfskin is so smooth lol

 

I have an Old Scofield KJV, 1909 edition. The notes are really quite good, although I know you preterists out there and others would disagree with the pre-trib/dispensational angles he comes from. My wife has a 1917 Scofield which is much easier to read because of the font, and I think there is more information (dates of books of the Bible, etc). Too bad we bought mine first, the font makes it hard on the eyes sometimes. Hers is red bonded leather and mine is black bonded because we is po' folks.

 

No favorite translation. My favorite Bible is the Parallel Study Bible: NIV, NASB, KJV, and Amplified are laid out side by side for comparison.
