I could go on with a major list, but why don't you consider the Gaither Music Hymnal titled "Worship His Majesty"? There are 711 selections contained in it ranging from Sunday School favorites to High worship, from Sunday "meeting on the grounds" gospel to High and Holy worship, from small country church to great metropolitan Cathedral.

It is a compilation of favorites from all over America, compiled and approved by Bill and Gloria Gaither, who have traveled extensively as both performers and producers of Wonderful Heart warming concerts that have included many of the works contained in the hymm book.

Be Thou My Vision has a great message, and sounds wonderful as a solo, and is still as beautiful even with no music.

Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior is another good solo that has a sweet sound when sung with a simple piano arrangement, good for a female alto who can comfortably move up a bit...

Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent is a powerful song that is best done as a solo by a tenor male. There's a great version done by Fernando Ortega with the accompaniment being very light and simple guitar and piano, but it would still work with simple piano. You gotta hear him sing it though when you have a moment to sit in quiet revery.

At the age of 23 George Beverly Shea (1909 - ) had a hard decision to make. He could accept a job offer in a secular singing position in New York City with a great salary and wide respect; or he could continue singing in churches and for Christian radio programs. While sitting at the family piano, he started to prepare a special hymn for the Sunday service. On the piano he found a poem by Mr. Rhea F. Miller. He immediately began to compose the music for the poem and used the song that same morning in his father's church service. He also used those words to direct his life and has shared his song, "I'd Rather Have Jesus" with audiences around the world.
