Who's your guy's favorite NFL player? My currently active one is hands down Donovan McNabb. I think the guy does it all, run and throw, better than anyone. Let me clairify, I believe he has the best combonation of the two, Manning is a better pure passer, and Vick is a better runner. My historically favorite was John Elway. He did the most with the least his entire career. I mean no lead was insurmountable with the " John Wayne," of football on your team.

O yeah! Remember in the the S.B. vs the Packers, his little whirly bird spin he took near the end zone? My single greatest sports watching moment of all time.

Surprised that no one mentioned Walter Peyton. He was the greatest.

    Since 2000: 1)Ray Lewis, 2)Michael Vick.

    1990's: 1)Emmitt Smith, 2)Bret Favre.

    1980's: 1)Ronnie Lott, 2)Herchel Walker.

    1970's: 1)Roger Staubach, 2)Lynn Swann

    1960's: 1)Bob Hayes, 2)Dick Butkus.

I am answering the question in accordance with the players I liked to watch. And though I remmber some of the late 60's, that one is given much more by highlight films than live action.

For performance, I'd probably say Derrick Thomas and Priest Holmes.

For other reasons I'd say Bill Maas (I got to go to a football camp for free b/c of him -- actually our whole league did I think)

Herschel Walker - took time during supper one time to meet a Cowboys fan from MO.

My favorite NFL player would have to be Chris Brown (RB) of the Titans.

Just curious: How does a guy from Ireland become a KC fan?

The best quarterback of all time -- Dan Marino.
The best running back of all time -- Barry Sanders

I loved watching both of them.

Walter Payton. Best in my lifetime. Agree with John Madden about Payton - Maybe not the best runner ever, definitely not the fastest, maybe not the best blocker ever, etc., but no one came close in total package. Tough runner, great blocker, great receiver.

Remember when Payton and Franco Harris were chasing Jim Brown's record. Heard an interview with Jim Brown is which he was asked if he had a preference as to who got there first. He said Payton without a doubt because he never ran out of bounds to avoid a hit. Harris was bigger than every d-back in the league and ran out of bounds every chance he got to avoid contact.

Speaking of contact...like it's a good thing.

I suggest that you all read this article about a Steeler that didn't avoid contact and should have. The greatest center ever, Iron Mike Webster:

I suggest that you start from the beginning under "also see" pts 1-5 on the right. I know that you all will love the first letter under "Man on a Mission" for obvious reasons.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1975332

And BTW, Jim Brown hated Franco and the Steelers. Still does.

I'm 55 and I grew up liking Jack Lambert.
