Favorite Place.

The mountains of western North Carolina and northern Georgia. It does not get all that hot in the summer, and most of the region is secluded from the bigger cities. Plus I lived in north Georgia for nine months

 

Oy. I have three (I'm not too big on having only one favorite ).

Florence, Italy
Manhattan (with forays into Williamsburg, Brooklyn)

I had some friends who lived in Florence, and went at least once a year for about 5 years. And I still don't speak very good Italian! But it's absolutely lovely.

I love Manhattan -- fast paced, lots of good things to do. It's just great fun. And Williamsburg is the new up and coming locale. A friend lives there, and we can always find some new place to go or thing to see.

And the shore - I love the shore in the fall and winter. I like going onto the beach at just about any time of year, but autumn is especially nice. That's where I go if I want a nice, lazy holiday.

Home.

Because it's home.

Favorite place to visit? New Zealand. Because it's a microcosm of the entire planet! The only place in the world where a glacier comes down into a rain forest, it has the hot springs at Rotorua, fjords, hills, desert, a ninety mile beach, some of the world's most gorgeous rose gardens, and in Christchurch there is a garden competition every year. If you go there in March or April (their autumn) about the time of judging, you will think the entire city is something out of a picture book! Even the factories participate in the competition and every yard is gorgeous.

Take a private plane over the south island and look down. The hills have so many sheep it looks like dandruff on green.

And talking about green! It's a magnificent place with friendly people and the American dollar is worth at least double there!

One time we were staying with a family in their basement flat and the wife asked us if we would ike some veggies from the yard. Oh, yes, thank you so much! She told us she would go get us a carrot.

"A" carrot? ONE carrot? Well how generous can you get.

She brought back one carrot. It was about 18 inches long and three or four inches across at the top. It took us three days to get through it.

They have this rich volcanic soil, you see...

It was also in New Zealand that I learned you can wrap anything in a pastry and it is delicious!

 

White Mountains, New Hampshire. A very rugged place, and very close-by. Where else can you find yourself up to your waist in snow in July ?(In New England, that is.)

Open Door Baptist Church. My church. I'd rather be there than anywhere else in the world. I hate being away from there. You would be hard put to try and keep from going...even when I'm sick. {Seriously, once I went with a fever of 102, sat on the back row, and ended up rushing out during the singing to...well, I'm not sure how to elequently put this so I'll just say it. Throw up. I was sick with the stumock flu.
Another time, I nearly passed out singing a special {panick attack} and even though eveyone tried to get me to go home, I sat on the back row, just barely able to sit up.
Yeah, I'm stuborn. Yeah I'm crazy, but I just can't stand to be away from my church.
Last year I went on a school trip to Myrtle beach, and didn't find out till the week of the trip that we left on Wenesday night. It was too late for me to back out, and since I'd alreay payed, I went. Needless to say, the whole way up there I cried, asked GOd to forgive me for not being at church. I kept thinking "There singing now........Their preaching.....their taking prayer requests.....now their having closing prayer! Oh I wish I was there!"
My family is my church. My home is my church. I don't feel complete unless I'm there for services. I need that preaching and fellowship. It's become part of me. I just can't do without it. If I'm not at church then I'm either deathly sick, or showing at the funeral parlor.
It's most definatly my favorite place!

Arkansas Tech University because it is where I spent some of the best years of my life and where I met my wife.

Siloam Springs Baptist Youth Camp because it is where I was saved.

Eureka Springs, Arkansas because it is a nice place to relax and is fairly close to the shopping in Branson (yes, I enjoy shopping).

Ati Day Yisroel because it is where many of our friends are and is the epitomy of what I think a school ought to be.

Barnes and Noble because I like to go and shop there.

Fort Worth because I still have some good friends who live there.

The beach. Soft salt air, the sound of the waves and the seaguls. Watching surfers surf, children make sand castles, the sun. Because I'm a California native and it's in my blood.

I love Glorieta New Mexico. My family spent 18 years of Summer vacations there at the Baptist encampment. I've been there many winters as well, including this past Christmas. I even met my wife there. If New Mexico is truly the Land of Enchantment, then the epicenter is in Glorieta, IMHO. Many memories to me there. Sigh

TEXAS!

That's where my parents live,and my younger brother and sister and their families. I have also lived in Texas off-and-on throughout my life, as my mom is a native Texan and my dad moved there when he was 11 years old.

Texas used to be synonymous in my mind with joy and festiveness,because we usually vacation there,and it is always wonderful for me to be re-united with my family. Recent visits have not been so festive,because my father is dying of liver disease...but I still get joy from being with family members.

Other than that...I just truly think Texas is the greatest state of all! Scenically,it has everything from beaches to hills,deserts and forests. I love that it's warmer there,and try to time some of visits for when it's still winter-dreary here.

I love the Texas attitude. I really can't think of another state that has quite the same chutzpah, braggadocio,and collective self-image! I love how you can get EVERYTHING in the shape of Texas,including tortilla chips,earrings and lawn ornaments! I love the Texas flag, and how they flaunt it everywhere.

I love real,true Texas accents (although they're not as easily found now that the high-tech floodgates from distant states have opened, and my parents' town has become a second Silicon Valley of sorts). Both my parents have great Texas accents, and I find myself slipping back into one after I've been home a few days.

I love Texas history. It used to be my favorite subject when I was an 8th-grader at Vidor Junior High School. I've been to the Alamo several times.

I love George W. Bush. I don't agree with everything he says and does, but I get this happy feeling when I see him on TV and hear him talk. (I used to hate even hearing Clinton speak.) I like the way W says "the great state of Texas," with the emphasis on the last "s"!

I love the Austin area,where my parents live. Yes,it's a liberal University town with a lot of transplanted Yankees, but it's beautiful and has a cool spirit.

Don't get me wrong, I know Texas isn't perfect,and I've seen some really ugly parts. But overall...when I'm on a plane on my way to the Lone Star State, I have a really,really happy feeling! I love Texas!
